Hotel Burnham - Chicago - VERY disappointing
Was in Chicago for business. Arrived late Sunday afternoon via taxi at the hotel. Doorman took the bags from the trunk while I had the backpack and another bag with me. When I went to check in there was no record of a reservation although I had made it two weeks ago through the Inner Circle desk (I have always found most of them to be VERY efficient and nice btw). Clerk was able to get me in although not at the rate that I had been told. Turns out that the doorman did not take out all of my bags from the trunk of the taxi and I lost one bag. When I asked him (didn't notice until I was finished checking in) where it was he told me "there was no other bag. . ." Umm yes there was! Bag contains personal materials that are only useful to me but very much needed.
No recognition of Inner Circle status. Construction went on until 3 AM. When I called downstairs I was told "this is downtown in a major city."
I like the look and feel of the hotel - VERY old world not modern in the least. I thought that the look and feel was really great. The staff however was exceptionally disappointing in many ways.
I tweeted about the poor stay and received a follow-up email from a person at the InTouch desk saying that they were disappointed to learn I had had a poor stay. I am posting here so that many of you will NOT stay at this hotel in the future. It really was poor in so many ways. BTW - the phone didn't work, the lamp was tied up with the phone so it toppled over when I went to pick up the phone. The restaurant serves total fru-fru food and no "real" food (well imo). e.g., pheasant, rabbit, octopus.
