For a ticket issued through a TA, is it possible for me to make the change directly with the ticketing airline pre departure? Have an ex NRT ticket issued by a very useless TA (Co policy). In the past they have managed to complicate even the simplest requests/instruction and even gave wrong info, so am keen to to avoid any dealing with them when possible, not to mention possible extra cost. Now, i just realized that 1 segment i'm flying on AY metal is actually a code share with BA and would like to change the flight code to BA if possible as BA flights accumulate double mileage on JL mileage program. Getting BA coded flight itself should be ok as I would be flying on BA on the preceding segment. I would like to contact JL as the ticketing carrier to change the code, but would this be possible or would i have to go through my useless TA? TIA
(The airline can actually take ownership of the ticket before then but it complicates accounting so they won't unless you are a seriously important customer) You may want to wait until you've flown a segment before you make this change, if possible. |
Thanks for the info. I guess i will try to talk to JL ticketing desk once i am checked in and have my boarding pass issued for the 1st segment in NRT - hopefully there's still some BA coded inventory left by then!

how did u manage to get jl to issue your ticket?
There is no rule that prevents JL from issuing a xONEx ticket. Just because the online tool sends tickets that would go to JL and RJ to AA, doesn't mean that JL can't or won't issue xONEx tickets. |

The same way you would any other ticket issued by an airline. Contact that airline.

Unfortunately i can't answer that for you, my company appointed TA has always arranged the ticket for me. I only know who the ticketing carrier is by looking at the e-ticket receipt. I can't see why there would be problem though, I have called the JGC hotline in the past to validate some complicated routings before i send the order to my TA. I'm pretty sure they would be ok with putting through the order.

Might I ask which desk you went to, and what reason they gave for refusal? |

I can, but as i'll be busy the day before vs. having time to burn waiting for the flight at the airport i just thought it's less of a hassle doing it at the airport!

how difficult is to have BA on the first flight ex jnb/cpt? should i call ba first or generate a pnr on the website first? thanks.

With BA as the first carrier there should be no problem using the on-line tool to set up your itinerary
However BA does the ticketing differently - when you click 'purchase', the tool will give you the BA PNR and instruct you to telephone BA in the country of origin to pay. |

will they reprice to a different country in which the credit card is located?

Data point - a correspondent on Fodor's just tried to book out of WDH using the online tool (from the USA) and it hangs at the payment screen. In this case BA would be the issuer as the first flight (WDH-JNB) would be on BA/Comair.
I suggested they look for a TA in Windhoek that has GDS access; hopefully there's one that could issue the ticket in a similar manner to the one who JonNYC found in Joburg. |

When I bought my DONE5 through BA's JNB office - the process took about 15 minutes on the phone. I paid for the ticket in Rand using my Australian credit card. (Of course that meant I had to pay a 3% forex fee:() |
