Greetings,
I know that OneWorld have previously viewed a JNB-LHR-DXB/HKG (transit) - SYD-JNB as a DONEWC4 ticket. Have they updated their terms and conditions to reflect it as a DONEWC3? I am making my travel plans for the next few weeks and the price will shape the flights I need to take, I don't feel like paying for a 4th continent if I am solely in transit. Regards, (particularly annoying now that one can fly non-stop DXB-SYD/MEL or DOH-PER/MEL without even 'touching' Asia. Here's the (unchanged) wording in the current fare rules PHP Code:

AB still publishes xONEWC fares out of KRT, but how to book them is the challenge
And, at least according to EF, no other airlines publish RTW or multi-continent fares ex-KRT Edit: just saw later reply indicating AB don't know what a xONEWCx is. |

Can you not just turn up at an Air Berlin office with a self-generated xONEWCx itinerary which meets the fare rules and ask them to issue the ticket? Qatar appears to fly KRT-DOH so it is possible to leave KRT on a OW airline.
Since AB does not fly to KRT, it has no office there (or GSA as far as I can tell) and if you were to turn up at one of its office elsewhere, you would then be subject to the rule: WHEN TRAVEL ORIGINATES IN A COUNTRY FOR WHICH A SPECIFIC LOCAL CURRENCY FARE IS PUBLISHED AND THE TICKET IS SOLD IN ANOTHER COUNTRY THE FARE WILL BE THAT PUBLISHED FOR THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN CONVERTED TO THE CURRENCY OF THE COUNTRY OF SALE AT THE BANK SELLING RATE. THE RESULTANT FARE MUST NOT BE LOWER THAN THAT FROM THE COUNTRY OF SALE. Edit: just saw later reply indicating AB don't know what a xONEWCx is. I feel pretty sure that if you asked them to ticket you an ex-Germany AONEWC4 (base price EUR12977) then they'd pretty darn quickly learn about such tickets;) |

Edit 2: It seems to be OK to go to Khartoum with the unsafe areas located to the west and south.
When we spent our few days in KRT, in April 2013, just about everybody else in the hotel were aid workers - either heading in to Darfur, which is in the West, or heading out. We got friendly with a young Canadian guy who worked for the World Food Program (IIRC). His 3-month tour of duty in Darfur was over, he was in town for a couple of days of de-briefing, and then he said he was off to Amsterdam and he was going to party, party, party:D South Sudan is now a separate country; and yes it is having its troubles at the moment. Just by the way, if you do go there - we found everybody very welcoming and helpful (typical arab/muslim hospitality to strangers); we walked the streets near our hotel in the evenings and felt completely safe. Even the traffic wasn't too bad; way better than Cairo! |

Hmmm, so presumably it could still work if you found a travel agent in Khartoum who could issue an Air Berlin xONEWCx ticket. And wiring a few thousand dollars to a random travel agent in Sudan, there's not much with could go wrong with that ;)
LOL Come to think of it, the place we stayed at was called The German Guest House, and had a travel desk* there... So you never know - google them and send them an email * we considered hiring a car and driver for a day trip out to the Sudanese Pyramids, North of the city. But in the end Mrs pandaperth wasn't comfortable with that |

Did you happen to meet any trustworthy and highly competent travel agents? ;)
See the post above The people who ran things in the hotel were, IMO and experience, completely trustworthy We also had dealings with the RJ office "downtown" and they were highly competent and friendly. But I'm sure they wouldn't be selling you a ticket on AB stock:) |

I just priced out an LONEX starting in MEL for USD$4635, 11 segments. I did this at rtw.oneworld.com. Then I happened to go to qantas.com and click through their rtw link to the same page, which re-opened my existing itinerary and priced it $1500 higher on the base fare: at this point, the price in my already opened tab updated also $1500 higher! I opened a different browser and re-priced it going directly to the tool, and got the original fare (I went through to the cc details page). What on earth is going on there, does this just get added on in some kind of lousy qantas 'fees'?
Unrelated question: I can save about $250 in tax/fees if I fly TAM from Sao Paulo/Rio to London instead of BA. Is there a noticeably different experience in Y? The TAM forums sound pretty negative. Third question - I tried posting this two days ago and got a message saying "moderators need to approve your post" then it never showed up. How's that work? |
