If I had to guess, the tool doesn't like open jaw (ie, ending with a surface segment even though it's legal). If it encounters these kinds of quirks, it throws back a meaningless error like "too many miles".
I know this sounds crazy but did you try the AI-powered booking tool?

Actually, I have gotten CAI-AMM-ORD on RJ move to ticketing, so that's not the issue either.

Yep thanks so much that was it - the open jaw at the end! Time to get routing exact now.

I've gotten a RJ CAI-AMM followed by QR AMM-DOH-JFK and eventually ending with AKL-DOH-DXB as an open jaw to price out without getting the unexplained error at the end of the flight selection process, although I haven't actually tried to ticket as of yet.

Perhaps CAi is not considered part of the Middle East and would not satisfy the ending requirement (within the Middle East)

Egypt is part of the ME for purposes of Oneworld explorer tickets.
From the rules:
The continent of Europe-Middle East consists of 2 zones:
o Europe (including Algeria, Morocco, Russia west of the Urals and Tunisia)
o Middle East (including Egypt, Libya and Sudan)

Hi Guys, For anyone looking at booking the CAI fares a point of reference. After a lot of messing with the tool I was successfully able to book the following itin:
CAI-MAD-DOH-DPS-KUL-TYO-CTS-HKG-PER-SYD-DFW-SEA-DFW-SCL,GRU-DOH
Total cost for 2 pax - $12,254AUD (base fare $4,444AUD each) - QF ticketed
approx $4050USD all in for a DONE5.
Can't imagine this will be around for long at that price

for future reference it would be helpful to list which are connections and which are stops. Enjoy the trip!!

Yeah sorry please see below

CAI-xMAD-xDOH-DPS-xKUL-TYO-CTS-xHKG-PER-SYD-DFW-SEA-xDFW-SCL,GRU-DOH

I can say for sure that the system would allow MAD as as stopover if needed. I tried SCL-LHR-CAI with and without it as a stopover and wouldn't work. I tried various options for a stopover in Europe on return and would not allow it kept saying I could only have 2 stopovers in origin region even when I had no stopovers in Europe middle east.

I also couldn't get it to allow the final sector of DOH-CAI so left it as open jaw. Easy enough to pay final flight there if there's still good options out of CAi next year.

I also tried SEA-DFW-SCL in various combinations and it failed but when I put in SEA-SCL it allowed it. Might be me but I couldn't see anything wrong with it.

I also tried to have ANC in my itin but everything I tried failed I could get there but always told me the return was more than 2 sectors with ANC in it. Made no sense but I gave up.

The other transit points on my itn I did not try as stopovers as did not need to stop but I suspect they would have been OK.

Hope that helps

Thanks, for SCL - GRU, are you using separate tickets?

Hi, first time trying this, not sure if the nomenclature all correct, please bear with me
Sharing my routes for DONE3 xCai
1. CAI - JFK (RJ xAMM)
2. NWK - LAX (AS)
3. LAX - DFW (AA)
4. DFW - SFO (AA)
5. SFO - KUL (CX xHKG)
6. KUL - ICN (MH)
7. ICN - HND (JL)
8. NRT - KUL (MH)
9. KUL - VIE (QR xDOH)
10. VIE - DOH (QR)
11. DOH - CAI (QR)

Questions,
1. I tried to add ANC into my US segment, but couldnt get it work, any advice?
2. Any chances to add more cities between 6 - 8, ie KUL - INC - Tokyo - KUL
3. In my final segment to CAI, initially I want to do VIE - CAI (xDOH), but system doesn't this, instead, it recommend me to add cities, either Doha, Madrid, or London.

Yes I'll make way separately between SCL and GDU.
Unless I'm mistaken there are no bookable OW options intra-South America on. XONEX ticket with maybe the exception of EZE-GRU on QR. Not sure if this can be booked as a standalone sector. It's prob as bad as Africa now for OW routes.

Just quickly on 2 no not possible you already have the Max 4 Asia sectors. You can add 2 more segments in the US as you are allowed 6 there but no more transcons.
Sounds like you hit similar ANC problem as me

You are using up 2 of your allotted 16 segments by changing airports in NYC (JFK to EWR) and TYO (NRT to HND).

AA JFK-LAX will be a better choice than AS EWR-LAX; better lounges at JFK and AS seats are only recliner.

Did you have issues with the itinerary exceeds 34,000 miles bug and if so what sorted it? I've tried a variation on your routing:

CAI-xMAD-xDOH-DPS-xHKG-PER-SYD-DFW-ANC-LAX-JFK-EZE,GRU-xDOH-HEL-DXB

and it says it's valid on the build page (with well over 34k miles of course), then lets me pick all the flights but won't let me go further due to the 34k "limit".

Same issue with this routing so it's not an ANC problem:
CAI-xMAD-xDOH-DPS-xHKG-PER-SYD-DFW-LAX-JFK-EZE,GRU-xDOH-HEL-DXB

Likewise with this routing so it's not about the end of the itin either:
CAI-xMAD-xDOH-DPS-xHKG-PER-SYD-DFW-LAX-JFK-EZE,GRU-DOH

And likewise with this routing so it's not about the transcon:
CAI-xMAD-xDOH-DPS-xHKG-PER-SYD-DFW-JFK-EZE,GRU-DOH
