[Rumour] MH may not join OW!

There are speculations that MH will now NOT join OW.

There were alot of hopes of a MH-QF tie-up to codeshare on MH's European services until QF teamed up with EK for the 10 year partnership agreement.

That has left MH standing out in the cold clueless on what to do next. And to complicate matters, QF was the sponsoring airline to MH's entry into OW.

Time will tell on how the OW alliance evolves from here on.

For now, I cannot wait to hear the outcome from the press announcement on Monday.

I'm combining this with the existing thread regarding MH joining the alliance.

Any sources to back this up? It would be very odd of MH to back out this late into the integration process.

Besides, IMO there's plenty of possible partnership opportunities between MH & QF, even with the EK deal:
- QF codeshares on Intra-Malaysia & SEA routes
- MH codeshares on some QF domestic & NZ routes + SYD-SCL to replace their discontinued EZE route
- Maybe even a JV/JSA type agreement between Aus-KUL if the current situation with MH Aus-KUL routes happen to be bad (MH pulling A380s out of SYD/MEL might be an indication of this)

Not to mention other OW carriers that could benefit from MH's network.

It would be good for QF to funnel traffic to KUL and MH for SE Asia and India.

It may be good for QF, but I suspect their dilemma is the substantial amount of premium fares on SYD/MEL-SIN (particularly finance, legal, transport industries) which i can't imagine they would want to hand over to SQ.

KUL will be better for oneworld connections, but give up a lot of premium business.

I also note that Kuala Lumpur hub and MH was mentioned in the Qatar release.

Even with a potential BA/QR JSA they still would benefit from MH since QR only two Australian Destinations.

MH to join OW on the week of Dec 10

Hi all,

In the latest discussion from Business Traveler, dated 8/10/12, MH is set to officially join OW on the week of Dec 10. Not much is said in the discussion but only on the date given.

You can read it here

Note the Dec-10 comment is just from a poster (who has only made 16 posts on BT) it is not an editorial comment, so YMMV

Ya I thought of that too but at least it's some "form" of indication that it's right on track for end 2012.

An anonymous comment from a relatively unknown poster who offers nothing to back it up but a sly "We've been told" or similar? Nah, I don't rate that.

I could go onto BT under a different name, post a message along the same lines on almost any topic "I'm told Qantas is doing such-and-such", "We've been informed that BA will next week announce blah" but that wouldn't make it credible.

According to ausbt, MH will be joining OW by the end of the year - if this is true, good to hear!

oneworld.com seems to have an update on member elect page stating that MH will join in the turn of this year (2012). this indicates any time between 15th December to 15th January. Unless you guys have different interpretation about the meaning of TURN...
