Probably already in the thread somewhere, but I just opened my account today and thought I would share my experience so far.

I printed the coupon and went over to the local Chase branch. I was lucky since I am just in the USA for another 10 days (live in Thailand, keep my local address here) and it was a quick 5 minute drive to the branch. Took in the coupon and the banker said she had seen 1 before (only 1!) but knew how it worked. The deal for me was open the basic checking that has the $25 annual fee and offers 1 mile for ever $2 spent. There is also a $6 monthly fee that is waived if you make 5 debit purchases (not sure if that is with/without pin) or a recurring $100 direct deposit. As far as I know there is no minimum balance requirement but they would probably nail you for any overdraft events, even if it were a result of the monthly fee.

She entered my OP number and the coupon code, then printed my receipt. I opted to pay $5 to get the debit card in 2 business days rather than the 5-6 that she said was free. I did not order any checks, but that would have cost an extra $20 or so for the basic ones. She then showed me how the online banking worked and my balance at that time said -$5 from the debit card fee since she hadn't put in the $100 yet. The rewards also didn't appear with the OnePass info, apparently this was still updating. I can understand that, but I did make sure to re-verify my 10,000 and 15,000 miles receipts at that time!

Overall it took about 25 minutes and she entered everything directly into the computer so I didn't have to go through the process of handwriting an application first, etc. Then I had to meet every manager in the bank and their brothers, so that added another 15 minutes. But overall very friendly experience and pretty easy for 25k miles.

I applied for an additional Chase checking account online, as my other account was opened late October of 2009. I was able to input the coupon code and it recognized it showing two rewards, the standard 10k and 15k. The account is now showing on my Chase online banking. I received an email confirming the new account, but on the email it said nothing under the section titled 'Coupon Rewards'...I called Chase regarding this to make sure the coupon code 'stuck' to the application and they will look into it and follow up. I will let you all know what they say.

Successful, but where to enter OnePass number with online account opening?

I was successfully able to open a personal Chase checking account online using a coupon code ( http://www.chase.com/milesforchecking ). The only problem--at no point was I prompted for my OnePass number. They'd better not try to open a new one for me... However, somewhere during the app process, it did confirm to me: "Reward 1 Details: 10,000 Continental Miles" and "Reward 2 Details: 15,000 Continental Miles." So that's mixed good news I suppose.

Another observation: in letting me choose which debt card I want (I chose the cheapest $25 CO one), it had two United Mileage Plus options. However, I hadn't heard United was offering a mileage bonus. Since the card options are there, I wonder if a United mileage bonus is one we'll see in 2010 or beyond--or perhaps have already seen?

A few other questions:

1) How soon after all the miles post can I cancel? Read there may be a fee if I don't make 5 debit card purchases per month.

Verbiage from the web page:
"A great everyday checking account! No monthly service fee, no minimum balance requirement - with established monthly Direct Deposit or with 5 or more debit card purchases during each statement period (withdrawals from the ATM or cash advance transactions do not qualify)."

2) It also allowed me to fund the $100 required using a visa/mc--I used my BA Visa--will this count toward my $2,000 required spend? I hope so. I noticed it allowed me to fund up to $500 with a credit card.

Here is the URLs for opening various checking accounts online:

https://www.chase.com/ccp/index.jsp?...ecking-Account

There's even an icon stating "Need to use a coupon code?" with instructions:

Here's the URL for the personal checking account I applied for:

https://www.chase.com/ccp/index.jsp?...-checking-page

I'm now tempted to try for the business account online w/coupon code, although at least one person has reported not being able to do so.

Update:

Here's a URL for opening Chase Business checking accounts in general:

https://www.chase.com/ccp/index.jsp?...b_open_account

Here's a URL for opening a Chase Business Classic Checking account:

https://chaseonline.chase.com/chaseo...=SMALLBUSINESS

... seems to be the account type mentioned in the promotion ( https://www.chase.com/index.jsp?pg_n..._Business_9898 ).

I tried to apply... it had a place to enter the coupon code on the first page. Somewhere during the app process I got an error message. Has anyone else tried this and gotten all the way through the process?

(1) Let us know when the miles post and if it is to a new FF number.

(2) Can you let us know if opening the account generates a hard inquiry and, if so, with which reporting agencies?

I'm in the same boat - when I applied on Sun night, I put the coupon code in and it displayed the details of the promotion throughout the applicaton process, but then upon submitting the app it had a blank space next to the 'Your coupon reward(s)' entry on the confirmation page and the email confirmation. Once the account showed up online, I sent an email via the secure message section of the site, and the response was to call up. I called up on Friday, explained the situation, and was told that they needed to look into it and someone would be calling me back within 24 hours. Needless to say, noone did, so I called back on Sat and asked for a supervisor. She said that she didn't see the details of the promotion on the account, but she would put in a 'research request' that would take 2 business days, and so I should expect a call back sometime on Tues or Wed. She sounded like she knew what she was doing though, and she took down the details of the promotion as well as my contact info, so hopefully I'll get a positive response.

Also, during the application process I was never asked for my OP number, but about a day or so after the account showed up online it was somehow there. Not really sure how they knew, since I've never had any Chase CO cards before....maybe they looked it up in COs database?

I opened in person on 12/31, and did a payroll auto-deposit on 1/9. Still haven't received the CO debit card, or gotten any miles deposited. Will update.

I did a personal and business account a few months ago. I did get the personal bonus, but not received any bonus for the business checking account yet. I suspect they only give you one bonus if you have concurrent accounts. I probably should've closed my personal account before applying for the business promotion.

Next week I will send them a message asking them to do some research into why I have not received any business bonus yet.

Will let you know (1) if I can get them to link my OnePass number with the account. Tried sending a Secure Message like the other poster did, who had me call customer service. They weren't very helpful and told me to call back after I'd received the cards (not here yet) because they couldn't do any "maintenance" on something that wasn't opened. Pretty poor CS experience so far. They did ask for the coupon code, and I offered my OnePass number. They said they'll send it all to "Research."

On (2), how would I know? I do not subscribe to any credit bureau services, nor do I wish to pay for any at the moment. Is there a free way to tell?

Glad to hear your experience was slightly better than mine. I don't see my OP number in my online Chase account.

Just got a call back today. She asked where I found the promotion, and then she said she'd go look it up and call back. Couple mins later, she actually did call back and read off the details of the promotion, and asked for the coupon code again since she didn't see it on the account. I gave it to her, and she said someone else would apply it to the account, but if there were any more problems, that I should give her a call back. It was actually pretty easy. I mean, of course it would have been easier if the system actually took the code in the first place, but technology sometimes doesn't work and the way it was handled once I was talking to supervisors was very efficient.

If interested in your score and number of inquiries on your credit reports, go to the frugal travel guys blog at http://frugaltravelguy.blogspot.com/. He has links to free 30-day trials for reports/scores from each agency. You can cancel each prior to the end of the trial period to avoid any fees.

starting to get frustrated waiting for the bonus miles to hit. Opened personal/biz on same day. 10k hit right away- nothing since-made required depos and purchases using cards.

Opened on the 27th of dec or so. I know its 6-8 weeks but why did I get a 10k credit and nothing else?

It appears that the first business checking 10k posts relatively quickly compared to the 10k/15k for the personal checking. Give it about a month or so until the first statement period closes and then you'll more than likely show the bonuses for the personal checking account post to your OnePass.
