Lightbulb Amex 100k

I assure you guys that this was a targeted offer.

I'm trying to find that website I stumbled on earlier this week. I'll get back to you guys...

But yeah, it could be my bad because when googling it, only US offers popped up.

In retrospect, you could still try for a possible 50k plat. Maybe more through GCR or RC... Sweet (but not as sweet as 100... )

Buying 20,000 SPG for $120 is not a terrible deal - hopefully there are some referrals that come up soon with 20K.

Clicking through GCR only shows 10000 points bonus.

But you can find the link for the 20000 points offer on SPG website. It is a public offer : http://www.americanexpress.ca/SPGNTMultiLPEn
It's worth nothing that you can also select the Business version of the card, with the same bonus, using this link.

Also note that the spending requirement for the biz is $1000 instead of $500. The annual fee is also $150 instead of $120.

Sweet...I've been waiting for the 20k offer. I'm wondering if I get the biz version, in case the offer on the Amex website for personal goes to 20k (and get a referral bonus).

I view this as a 25K airline miles bonus (can you say Alaska Airlines?) WITH a $120 AF. Not jumping on this one...unless a juicy referral comes through like last year's version.

The thing you have to be aware of is that Amex Canada only allows you to carry a maximum of TWO credit cards...so, if you have another Amex CC product (Airmiles, Blue Sky, SimplyAmex, Holt Renfrew), then you might be in a sticky situation when you try to self-refer from the Biz SPG to regular SPG. This happened to me once before, but I found Amex to be very 'accommodating' to my needs...again, though there are nay-sayers out there, I DO firmly believe that having a GOOD relationship with Amex pays off in the long run, when it comes to churning their cards.

Good thing I have zero credit cards with Amex!

I think the SPG card at 20k is a no-brainer if you (or your spouse) don't have the card so don't care about the referral. 0.6c per SPG point, yes please! And I would use it as a primary card, effectively earning 1.25x points (assuming 20k transfer bonus of 25%) in various airline programs. but of course, opinions differ.

Amex SPG

Hmm, I've been thinking about what to do with this card if it did not become first year free with a bonus.

MR points convert to SPG 2:1. I only use my Amex Gold at the 2x point places (gas, grocery, drug, air) and DH and I cross refer. I have lots of Amex MR spend because I buy gift cards at the drug store.

The Amex Biz Gold is fyf and 40,000 MR points. That's 20k SPG (current bonus). Plus the 15,000 MR referral which converts to 7,500 SPG. That beats the 5,000 SPG referral.

I told myself I'd pretend my Amex Biz sign up bonus and referral were the SPG version instead. And tried to convince myself that my 2x MR spend would have been just 1 SPG point if I made that my go to card.

I'm not good at mental accounting because I always go back to 'best value'. But I at least convinced myself I should hold out for fyf on the SPG.
