I called on Friday to see if ours would take Amex. They do accept them but they charge an $8 fee for anything over $500. To me it is a small price to pay for getting the 4k spending out of the way so I can get my miles.
Has anyone had any problem with canceling the card once the miles posted to your AA account?

That could be a great deal - even if you weren't trying to get enough miles to hit the minimum required for the 75,000 miles bonus. Our tax collector (similar to the IRS) charged something like 2.25%.

Happy to report that I applied for and got both Visa signature and the Amex card from Citi. I applied these one after the other in 2 days sometime last month. Met the 750 spending in the first and the 50k posted for each right on the day of closing of the billing cycle.
Thanks flyertalk!!
I have to spend 10k in the first year to get 50k more on the Amex card, but will get "only" 25k for the 10k spending on the visa. I get the other 25k in the second year.
Thanks flyertalk!!

I told them I applied for the 100k miles deal and they said that deal had expired so I must be mistaken. I then asked if I could be switched to the 100k miles (over 2 years) deal and they said they couldn't switch deals on me after I've already applied and everything has been processed. He said I could reapply for a new card under the 100k miles deal and see if I get approved for that.
100% positive I signed up for the expired 100k miles ($750/$10,000) deal. But I guess it got processed like the 75k miles ($1500). I guess on the bright side they could've signed me up for the 75k miles ($4000) deal.
But I was effectively shut out of the 100k ($750/$10,000) deal.

Best options?
Hi All- I've never had a citi card and am new to this whole strategy. I was hoping to get into the churning strategy with the 30K citi aadvantage cards but it seems those days are long gone..
Considering the options on this thread, I'm trying to think about how I can maximize miles as a first time cardholder. I'm not sure I could reach the $10K spending threshold with the 100K cards to get the extra 25K in the first year. I could def spend the $750 to get the initial 50K mile though..
I was thinking about filling out applications for a 75K personal amex and visa card at the same time. Then doing the same thing with the business card? I know it's not guaranteed, but it seems that some people have success getting both personal applications through. Or do you think I should be looking at a diff offer/strategy entirely? Thanks!

Success at last, well sort of! I used a link in my AAdvantage summary email to apply for a gold Mastercard with 30,000 miles for $750 spend and the expired 100k link in post #2 of this thread for a platinum Visa with 50k after $1500 spend. Both were approved instantly-the Gold MC as applied for and the PLT Visa was downgraded to a Gold Visa. I guess it was a good thing I didn't go for the 75k $4000 PLT Visa, Citi seems to think I only deserve a Gold card.
I called regarding the downgraded Visa and the CSR said I would get 50,000 miles after $750 and she didn't mention the MC but I didn't ask about that one as I got the offer I went after and didn't want to draw attention I applied for 2 cards. I used FF and IE and hit the apply button within 2 seconds of each other. I'm happy, 80k is 4 RT in Australia on QF and I can easily make the $1500 spend combined paying off the Princess cruise next month.
I signed up for online banking but when I tried to log in, it gave an error screen. Am I supposed to be able to log on right away or does it take a few days or until after the card is activated?

I added my card online and it pulled up instantly. I already had one Citi card, though, so I am not sure if you are a first time customer if it takes longer.

Don't kill me for asking, but can someone tell me the deal for non-first time cardmembers?
I have an active AA Citi Biz card (four months old) and an AA Citi Visa (active over a year old) and a cancelled AA Citi Visa (closed over a year old).
Any chance that I can apply for more personal cards since my others are over a year old? I know the offer says first-time cardmembers but I've seen reports, like the post above, that others are getting approved as well.
Sorry for not wading through the 218 pages to find out, would appreciate any info.
