Some countries have introduced travel restrictions for people who have been to Italy in the past 14 days:

From IATA site above regarding entry to HKG

"Passengers who have been in China (People's Rep.), Iran or the Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy and Veneto regions (covering Bologna, Milan, Venice and Verona) in Italy in the past 14 days, are not allowed to enter if their permitted stay in Hong Kong (SAR China) is less than 14 days."

Not looking good.

Looks like BLQ-HEL-HKG is no longer an option any time soon

What options do we have if our current tickets aren't flyable (<14 days in HKG), but AY still isn't allowing changes past late March??

The Italy restriction is effective from today March 1st. So very recent. You could call AY and let them know you would rather not be refused entry into HKG from one of their flights and request a new departure point (Budapest maybe). After all, the airline would be responsible for returning you (if AY lets you on the plane).

Quite messy, at this point. I was "happy" to have these trips... but now it seems too much hassle than else.
I'll cross my fingers regarding AY being reasonable and let change/cancel with no penalties.

If they don't I'd talk to the card company. Carriers can't keep fares to places where the passengers can't get off.

I had a ticket in APril and because of the ban to enter Hong Kong when you come from Italy, they let me change it for June

When I called today to change my ticket, they said that I can either cancel for a full refund or travel at a later date so I think you should be good with canceling yours for a full refund

no option to drop the BLQ-HEL leg and start from somewhere else? Either HEL or other?

I'm still sitting on this fare since my travel date is two months away.

In this situation AY would have to refuse transport if one were traveling BLQ-HEL-HKG and the passenger's time in Hong Kong was < 14 days. I suppose a passenger could indicate another destination as Hong Kong has not instituted transit restrictions, but AY, especially at a minor outstation like BLQ, would likely take the safer course and refuse to board the passenger.

This is good to hear because this is currently outside of the waiver period which only is until 28 March and only covers AY102 and AY101.
