But switching from CAN to HKG is fine, as far as I've understood? Need to call them tomorrow...

My ticket is in early May to CAN, still a long way to go.
Hopefully things are much better by then
If not, I was actually hoping they would allowing destination changes to outside China, ie SIN

Makes no sense to change routing to another part of China if the issue is still ongoing.

But then again for the price we paid, can’t really complain

My client (large international corporation) has issued a “no travel” policy for China and an “essential travel only” policy for Singapore for their own employees.
I’m not sure if SIN would be so much better.

I think they may be more likely to offer a change of destination the longer this lasts i.e.50% of some income is better than 100% of no income.

I've seen a few mentions of attempts to change origin / destination on these tickets. From what I can tell origin changes appear possible, but only within the same country. Destination changes also appear possible, but only within the same country.

(1) Has anyone changed the EU country of their origin airport?
---- eg. BLQ/HAJ/STR to LHR/MAD/CDG

(2) Has anyone been able to drop intra-EU segments?
---- eg. STR-HEL-HKG-HEL-STR to HEL-HKG-HEL

(3) Has anyone changed the Asian country of their destination airport
---- eg. CAN/HKG to SIN/KUL/TYO/ICN/BKK

I tried to change STR-CAN to STR-HKG or SIN and they said no. This was the response I received on the 29th January: 'Flights flown after 29th of February can be changed or cancelled only by the ticket rule (your ticket says no changes, no refund). Kindly notice though, that since your flight is not very close and the situation and given guidelines may change if the situation changes, I'd suggest that you'd keep the booking as it is for now and follow the travel updates closer to the time of travel.'

That was 3 weeks ago and I think it's too early to try again. But if I could change to another destination I would take it.

I cannot help but feel sickened at people who cite virus fears and want an O/D change from HKG/ China to SIN/ Japan. SIN/ Japan have had more confirmed cases than HKG If you wanna cite virus fears at least try ICN/ Thailand when it'd at least be a little more credible.

There are some who want to go to Taiwan immediately after flying this fare, which isn't possible at the moment with a HKG transit.

Relative to population size Japan, Thailand & South Korea all have similarly low case numbers. Singapore has a slightly higher rate than Hong Kong, but both still have very low numbers.

The primary concern is travel restrictions either continuing on from HKG-CAN to other Asian countries or returning home afterwards. Hong Kong is significantly more problematic than Singapore in this regard and as such being able to move a HKG flight to SIN would be helpful for many.

1. This not AY's problem
2. TPE is nearer to and well served from BKK/HKT/ICN, so demanding SIN/ Japan is still incredulous

2. BKK/HKT/ICN are well and cheaply connected to the region, so demanding SIN/ Japan is still incredulous
3. Have yet to see it break mainstream media, but anecdotally there are Singaporeans subject to quarantine upon arrival in NZ/ Switzerland from SIN. Don't know what other countries are doing this if any.

I don't understand this response. Obviously it's not AYs problem. And no one is demanding anything...

What is possible / what AY is generous enough to offer is of interest though

Singapore has the highest amount of confirmed cases after China.

I'm one of the persons interested in TPE as side trip starting point. If AY allowed to change destination, i wouldn't care if it was to ICN or BKK or wherever in Asia, as long as none of these destinations are in any country's ban list...
At the moment my backup is going to Indonesia from HKG via KUL. Not my first choice, but better than nothing*

*Yes, I prefer to go to Malaysia or Indonesia than stay in HKG for a solo trip, but only for price - and resort styles - reasons. :P
