I was now able to change HAJ-HEL to TXL-HEL +1 day and HEL-HAJ into HEL-DUS free of charge. But of course, let's see how China travel will look like in April

Berlin to Helsinki to Düsseldorf ?

500 euros seems like an expensive way to do that :-/

I suppose it’s better than no travel and no refund - I’d be inclined to take a budget carrier for such short trips though!

Sorry for not expressing myself clearly. I still intent to travel to CAN, given that the situation has improved by mid-april.

I called 2 days ago and they do not budge for the destination any more. You HAVE to fly into China, HKG/CAN/PVG/PEK/NKG, which is extremely stupid, since the point of cancelling is due to poor demand and travel restrictions. If I change into HKG and transit, I would still not be able to go back home in TPE as a free man. They really need to reroute to Japan or Southeast Asia at least.

I wonder if they are making more money off their insurance claim for this than doing the actual flights. They do seem adamant on no changes.

How flexible are they on the dates? I have one trip in February, one in March and one in May. Not sure what to do about the Feb/March trips, Expedia keeps emailing me that I urgently have to decide what to do.
I mean, I guess I could do HKG and continue to Japan, but I don't know how bad it is with the virus.
How flexible are they on origin, trip duration and new booking period? Could I change a 10 day trip STR-CAN in March into a 5-day trip TXL-HKG in September?
Really not sure what to do about these tickets...

I think I saw someone post on another thread in the AY forum this evening that Longhaul AY crews are being placed on unpaid leave?!

And like they said... it would suggest AY are expecting this to remain fairly grim...

Which could conversely be good news for those of us hoping to be able to cancel itineraries.

I can only speak for myself when I say as soon as an opportunity comes up to cancel for a refund - I will. I have a really extensive amount of travel planned around Asia & Oceania, which I expect the virus will affect massively, but trips to CAN & others which automatically preclude me from further travel will not be on the agenda...

everything is followed strictly per the waiver.
Origin and destination country cannot change, latest the trip needs to be finished by May 31st, and everything else is flexible. I think you can do immediate turn in HKG if you want, but that will raise eyebrows for sure. But for the miles it is definitely worth it to continue flying.

They’ve officially declared almost 15,000 new cases overnight, due mostly to a change in how they classify cases as being infections.

Can’t see mainland flights resuming directly after the current waiver end date of 29 March at this rate...

surely the next week will see an update to the waiver terms.

My girl-friend is a biomedicine student and she told me that even if they had a vaccine now, containing the virus will take time. So I also think they’ll extend the waiver.

I would just rebook my trips until a bit later and then I’ll just rebook them again if the situation hasn’t changed.
I think I’ll just try to rebook the ones I can rebook to HKG to avoid the visa issue altogether.

Yeah Australia’s leading the charge on vaccine development (CSL is the world’s biggest vaccine company apparently) and they’re saying 16 weeks minimum. Which I’d tend to believe since that was about the delay between the swine flu outbreak starting and the vaccine coming out

Just wait for your travel dates to be affected by the waiver.
