Hi. Need 18,000 miles to reach 1k again this year. Can travel 12/19 to 12/23.
Looking for reasonable economy routes that have upgrade space.
United preferred, but would do Star Alliance partners on connections if necessary.
Open to any suggestions!

I drive when I have an SMF departure. There is bus service between the two cities, but you'd have to taxi or Uber on either end. That fare is gone now.
I've done the same day turn at BQN before. When you exit the plane down the stairs, they have people directing you to the exit and baggage claim toward the right. Ask them to direct you to the gate area, which is on the left and you won't have to clear TSA security there. Be sure you have a paper boarding pass.
As jbeckett said, you will be getting back on the same plane. It will be the same crew too. They see a lot of these turns this time of year. You will probably have others doing the same on your flight.

I've been looking for some ez miles to top off, thought I'd share what I did...
bear in mind, I'm AMS based.
AMS-ZRH-AGP in P = 2750 PQM
AGP-FRA-MUC-AMS in P 3250 PQM
for 400 EUR. On LH and LX. You could fly longer for cheaper, but I prefer to fly in P or Z to accumulate more PQM's... redeemable miles will be around 5000 -
anyway, maybe it helps someone

Sorry, i think i might have messed you up. This should be from Houston / IAH
The cheapest thing that I find close maybe this twice:
UA:$251 AUS-BQN rt 6970PQM (w/ 500mi min)
Mon 5 Dec
UA1629 AUS-IAH 1253-1355
UA1945 IAH-EWR 1500-1927
UA1071 EWR-BQN 1071-0155(+1 day)
Tue 6 Dec
UA1162 BQN-EWR 0250-0545
UA813 EWR-IAH 0750-1050
UA1100 IAH-AUS 1340-1442
https://goo.gl/flights/40mB
Other days are a few bucks more, but still way under your budget. If you are currently Gold, should give you lounge access (as the ticket is considered international for that purpose).
Will update if I find something better...
EDIT #1: An easy option is to do the above itineray once in First/Business:
UA:$802 AUS-BQN rt 13940PQM in P (w/ 500mi min)
https://goo.gl/flights/SmY1
Obviously costs more, but within your budget. And saves a bunch of time.
EDIT #2: Also possible from MSY, for about $60 less. Not sure how practical to get there, though:

Any MP elites looking for 5000 PQM's out of London, LHR-BCN on LH (P class) for £286 from Lufthansa. overnight stay in BCN required.
Via MUC both ways = 5028 PQM. RDM = 2524 + elite bonus miles.
Might save a TATL trip for somebody.

EDIT:
A few bucks cheaper substituting MSY for AUS:

(first 4 segments identical)
UA508 IAH-MSY 1310-1418 A319
