Hi. Need 18,000 miles to reach 1k again this year. Can travel 12/19 to 12/23.
Looking for reasonable economy routes that have upgrade space.
United preferred, but would do Star Alliance partners on connections if necessary.
Open to any suggestions!

Re: customs *facepalm* right, duh. I'm not American, so it's maybe not as bad... but still pretty bad.

Thanks!

I've done the same day turn at BQN before. When you exit the plane down the stairs, they have people directing you to the exit and baggage claim toward the right. Ask them to direct you to the gate area, which is on the left and you won't have to clear TSA security there. Be sure you have a paper boarding pass.

As jbeckett said, you will be getting back on the same plane. It will be the same crew too. They see a lot of these turns this time of year. You will probably have others doing the same on your flight.
Good to know for future. I might nab one of these BQN flights. Thanks, friends!

I've been looking for some ez miles to top off, thought I'd share what I did...
bear in mind, I'm AMS based.

AMS-ZRH-AGP in P = 2750 PQM
AGP-FRA-MUC-AMS in P 3250 PQM

for 400 EUR. On LH and LX. You could fly longer for cheaper, but I prefer to fly in P or Z to accumulate more PQM's... redeemable miles will be around 5000 -

anyway, maybe it helps someone

Other days are a few bucks more, but still way under your budget. If you are currently Gold, should give you lounge access (as the ticket is considered international for that purpose).

Will update if I find something better...

EDIT #1: An easy option is to do the above itineray once in First/Business:

UA:$802 AUS-BQN rt 13940PQM in P (w/ 500mi min)

https://goo.gl/flights/SmY1

Obviously costs more, but within your budget. And saves a bunch of time.

EDIT #2: Also possible from MSY, for about $60 less. Not sure how practical to get there, though:

Any MP elites looking for 5000 PQM's out of London, LHR-BCN on LH (P class) for £286 from Lufthansa. overnight stay in BCN required.

Via MUC both ways = 5028 PQM. RDM = 2524 + elite bonus miles.

Might save a TATL trip for somebody.

Must be IAH...got it. It costs a little more from there, but this is reasonable:

UA:$963 IAH-BQN-AUS-IAH in First/Business 13940PQM (w/ 500mi min)
Sun 11 Dec
UA1945 IAH-EWR 1500-1927 B739
UA1071 EWR-BQN 2110-0155(+1 day) B739
Mon 12 Dec
UA1162 BQN-EWR 0250-0545 B739
UA1078 EWR-IAH 0855-1157 B752 **LAYFLAT**
UA1100 IAH-AUS 1340-1442 A320
UA1492 AUS-IAH 1535-1638 A320

https://goo.gl/flights/T6OE

Safe travels!

EDIT:

A few bucks cheaper substituting MSY for AUS:

UA:$937 IAH-BQN-MSY-IAH in First/Business 13940PQM (w/ 500mi min)

(first 4 segments identical)
UA508 IAH-MSY 1310-1418 A319
UA1894 MSY-IAH 1650-1810 B73G
