If one really wants to go to POS, one can take a more expensive itinerary to spend the night on a plane. For example, IAD-BDL-ORD-EWR-POS-IAH-IAD is $380 for about 8000 miles. (searching IAD-ORD, 12/10, ORD-SJU, 12/10, SJU-IAD, 12/11) Good luck.
DCA-IAH-EWR-SJU-EWR-IAH-DCA (Dec. 7-8) $8400 miles for $302. Hope that someone can use it.

Segments Needed: 4
Required Spend or Budget: $250-300 (as little as possible, basically)
Available Travel Dates: Ideally weekends, but could do Fri 11th - Tue 14th Nov inclusive as well.
Required Metal or Codeshares okay: UA metal needed

I think that long weekend could also be parlayed in to a mini-vacation with Little Miss Sofasurfer. I've been looking at trying to get them to visit her parents in Florida, but it's not looking that great a deal on UA right now...

Miles aren't the key thing here, just the segments - in fact, I think she'd prefer the shortest amount of flying possible, as she just got back from ICN at the weekend...
Quebec city with a stop in YUL on the way. Wonderful city for a weekend vacation.

Two day trips to the west coast will do it, examples below.

You can find a trip to Europe, but the close and cheap destinations (LHR, AMS, CDG, etc.) aren't quite far enough to get the mileage you need, so you would need to do another short domestic trip to get the rest of the miles.
Here are some samples -

You can experiment with google.com/flights and put in the cities that you are interested in visiting to see what you can find, or look at the map.

Thanks in advance! Right now, I'm a bit short on my requirement to make it to Silver in 2016. I need either ~8000 more qualifying miles, or 10 qualifying segments. What would be the easiest / cheapest way to get these?

Departure Airport: NYC (JFK, Newark, or LGA all works)
Miles Needed: Either ~8000 miles or 10 qualifying segments
Required Spend or Budget: No requirement
Available Travel Dates: Only on weekends, before the end of 2016
Required Metal or Codeshares okay: Not sure what this means but I'll make it work!

That's fantastic. I'm trying to decide if my body can take that, but it's exactly what I asked for.
