[FARE GONE] Expedia.ca $300 coupon on packages (new terms)
#3018
After trying to follow this thread I had posted about "WHY did expedia offer the Vegas deal?" which got locked. If its burried in here I wouldn't have found the answers I did for the brief time my post was active.
1) Obviously a promotion where the terms were too loose in that it allowed trips that were possible for $300 with $300 off = $0 total.
2) Expedia has offered other deals like this, and after some searching noticed that they are posted in the Hotel Deals forum which as a MR'er I am embarresed I never noticed. However it is rare that it really brings down airfare and is mostly just a discount off of hotels. But sometimes it does.
3) Expedia obviously knew that people were booking $0 trips, so they changed the terms mid-way so that you had to book starting from Canada where I believe it was impossible to find a trip for $300 which would slow down the number of bookings and was probably the purpose of the promotion as they were probably willing to loose a few thousand dollards to build up some hype.
For all the people complaining about the few $$ charges, try being a Canadian, it happens all the time when booking through a US travel company as the company charges your CC in that currency then readjusts. (Any purchase on a Canadian Credit Card at Alaska Air does this on my AS CC's. - also Credit Cards usually charge 2-3% bonus for the bank to keep up their profits ha ha)
I was really hoping that through the wisdome of flyertalk that we would find the answers as to why this was offered and what the take at Expedia is? Surprised this has not made the press? But I am sure my post will just be burried in this loooong thread.

AM 680 News Story: Travellers snag nearly-free trips from Expedia.ca
I'm also in it for the miles: 21,000 EQM's + from December 17-24th
Travellers snag nearly-free trips from Expedia.ca

Was it an early Christmas gift or a massive error?
Deal hunters snagged nearly-free trips through Expedia.ca last weekend.
One traveller, Colin xxxxxxx (edited for privacy reasons), booked a return flight from New York to Toronto just in time for Christmas Eve for $40, taxes included. It also included a few days stay in a hotel.
Expedia offered a $300-discount last weekend for a flight and hotel package to Cancun, Las Vegas, New York and the Mayan Riviera.
So for packages just over $300, the trip was almost free after the discount.
Some people bragged online about booking more than 10 trips before the discount was pulled offline.
Expedia won't say whether the promotion was a pricing error.

"... The deal made an even bigger splash at Flyertalk.com, a forum dedicated to frequent flyers, where it spawned about 3,000 posts with more than 261,000 views. A few Flyertalk deal-hunters boasted that they took advantage of the promotion for more than 10 bookings. Some had no interest in actually going on vacation and instead used the almost-free trips for so-called mileage runs, in which travellers fly just to build up frequent flyer miles and earn first-class perks..."
And my fave line of the article...
"...Expedia declined an interview request..."
Ya think?

Read carefully. Some people booked throw away fare (eg BUR-LAS) with choice accomodation (eg suite at the Venetian) to be combined with choice air fare and throw away hotel (eg Rancho Fiesta).

I know that I booked a spa cert, but I don't see it on any of my documents and I haven't received any word from the spa people. Any guidance on where I can see the spa cert/extras on my expedia documentation?
