Hotel was very accommodating to me and my wife though, and moved us over to a suite in the quieter tower (am plat but didn't request a suite)

Update. Actually Gazette is closed indefinitely - no ETA from staff.
I'm actually back to the property for the night. The Gazette windows and Gazette entrances are all boarded/papered up. The Platinum/Executive Floor happy hour and breakfasts are on the Mezzanine level bar which I alluded to in my earlier post.
The construction noise is pretty darn loud if you are on the lower levels of the main tower. When I checked in it was painfully loud but since my room is on the top floor (I scored the 2216/2214 suite upgrade - pretty much overkill at over 1,000 sq ft but I'll take it when I can), I could not hear a thing.
I would hazard a guess that if you are staying halfway up or higher the construction will be minimal or non-existent during the day. Otherwise as per bouncingbug's post I would too suggest staying in the other tower (farther walk but still a nice section of the hotel).

Points of clarification...
When I say mezzanine level it is actually Floor 3 (feels more like a mezzanine though).
The replacement restaurant on Floor 3 is officially called the Reporter.
I had breakfast there again this morning. Being my first weeknight here, it seems that the business week breakfast buffets are slightly pared down from the weekend version. I went down at 9:50am and it wasn't very busy, which makes sense since all the suits would need to be in their client offices by 9am.

Stayed here for Valentine's Day. Received an upgrade to a corner deluxe room in the St Antoine tower on the 9th floor. The room was very nice but unfortunately there was no view. While there are huge picture windows on both walls, one wall faces condos only a few feet away while the other wall is across the street from offices.
Service at the hotel was great. I received both a 500 point welcome amenity and free buffet breakfast for two at gaZette. The breakfast was decent but I've had better.
Incidentally, I had a billing issue and ended up losing Starpoints. Can a Lurker point in the right direction to get this resolved?

Update from March 2013
I stayed here for three nights this week and thought I'd write a few updates so that people didn't have to search back too far in the thread to know how this hotel works.
First, the location is good. I have stayed here twice in the past year and it is very convenient to Old Montreal, which has a lot of great restaurants and is a major tourist area. If I were here on a vacation, I would stay here over the other Starwoods based on location and the upscale-ness of the Westin.
Second, it is a big hotel, with a variety of rooms. I stayed in one tower last summer and a different one this time. Neither room was that memorable. I was not upgraded either time, even as a lifetime Platinum, the hotel wasn't even full this time.
Third, the service level to Platinums is definitely hit-or-miss. In addition to the lack of upgrades, neither time on check-in was I given any breakfast instructions or drink coupons. I was given lounge/Westin Club access both times, but there honestly is no reason to go up there. I posted pictures on Y3lp of the club because it was so empty. They have a small fridge of sodas and waters, but nothing else.
So after reading this thread while sitting at the Gazette bar on the first night, I realized I should ask the front desk about my PLT benefits. When I inquired, they were very accommodating. She gave me drink/appetizer coupons for the Gazette - one for each night. They also have a list at the hostess stand of who has free breakfast. The buffet is very good and well-worth it.
Finally, the last thing I had issue with was the Green Choice. The first morning I left the card on the nightstand (not bed) and they still cleaned the room and replaced the towels. When I asked at the front desk, they said to leave it on the door when I went to sleep. The next afternoon, they still cleaned my room but there was no sign of a Green Choice benefit (I wanted the points). Upon check-out, the front desk said they would credit the points, but I told them that at other Starwoods there is a card you redeem for the benefit.

I stay here about once a month, I've always found (from my first stay) that the platinum upgrades and services are great. The upgrade is typically to a deluxe room as their only suites are very large and specialty. They also don't have any suites that participate in SNA but they do sometimes upgrade Platinums to those suites
The drink / tapas vouchers they give are per night and 2 each. So you could on night 1 use your vouchers for 4 drinks/food. This is very generous as they have a wide selection of drinks and food such as calamari, burgers & salads
The breakfast buffet is quite substantial with plenty of warm options: eggs, pancakes, salmon, bacon & sausage...
Best starwood property in MTL!

I stayed here last week, this hotel is now at the top of my list in Montreal. An easy walk to Old Montreal and great service. I had a different experience and feel I was recognized well for being platinum. Service overall from the front desk and concierge to the bar tender and the doorman was all top notch, I don't think I will ever stay at the W or St. James again while in Montreal.
If you are up for a walk check out Pikolo for a great espresso and dinner at XO next door to the hotel was superb. Joe Beef is still has great steaks and Express, even if it is a little touristy, offers great bistro dining.
Looking forward to my next trip back to Montreal already.

Considering staying at this property over Memorial Day weekend -
As a plat, when booking a non-club level room, access should to the club would be available, right? Does this mean you'd get a room on the club floor as well? At some properties, we've used our portable baby monitor when we had a room near the club to go there to talk and relax between the baby's bedtime and ours. Wondering if this might be feasible here, and if we'd need to book the executive-level to make it work.
Alternatively, we're considering booking a "premium room" (suite) so that we can relax and visit in the living room while the baby sleeps in the bedroom. This is in the Saint-Antoine Tower. Thoughts on this room type?

The Exec club is now closed permanently, reason given was 'people complained as it wasn't a proper club offering'. While it wasn't a great club by any means, the possibility to grab an OJ or coke was much appreciated, so it's a deterioration for the hotel overall.
