I don’t find there to be that much difference in the locations between the RC and StR/Palace—as it’s a mere 13 min walk between them. The RC is on a hill, but does not have particularly nice views despite that fact, and the StR and Palace are on level ground and almost equidistant from Union Square as the RC. Neither the StR or Palace have incredible views, though the StR does have some interesting city views looking to the west. Getting in and out of the city is usually easier from the StR or Palace, too. Muni and BART are more convenient to the StR/Palace, too.

I just finished a 5 night points stay at the Palace and loved it.
Our stay was in the middle of a 3 month road trip with 2 kids under 2. The staff were incredibly welcoming and so kind to our two kids. Front desk offered us an upgrade from a deluxe double to a king suite the next day - our double room was huge and we only accepted because it is easier to sleep in a king with our 2 year old. The move was totally worth it for the heated toilet seats in the suites!
We opted for breakfast over points and it was good although there were no alternatives to the standard buffet (my 2 year old is dairy free and could only eat fruit - it wasn't a big deal as he eats continuously during the day, I just thought it was strange that they didn't over dairy or gluten free alternatives). Otherwise the stay was faultless.
One tip - if you are driving, check out the Hearst car park just around the block. I think it was 35 a day vs 60 for the Palace. We ditched our rental when we arrived in San Fran so didn't have to worry about parking and we were able to walk to many of the places we wanted to visit. We did rent a car for a day to check out the view points but i'm pretty sure hey were easy to reach by sightseeing bus/public transport. We picked up our rental on our last day and parked it for 2 hours in the Hearst lot - Hearst was payable by the half hour rather than an entire day rate.

Removing my LHRC question - I decided to go with STARS instead of LHRC to avoid this problem. It looks like LHRC bookings no longer give you the Marriott confirmation number so it's harder to get done.

Was at this hotel for on Christmas Eve for 1 night. SNA confirmed at T-5.
Wasn’t given any coupon nor informed of Platinum breakfast benefit at check in.
On Christmas morning, the main Garden Court was closed as they prepared for the Christmas brunch, guests were instead directed to Pied Piper for breakfast, which obviously wasn’t equipped to handle with at least 45 mins waiting list! It was crowded to the gills and frankly rather stressful environment for a relaxing breakfast on a holiday morning.
The two surly receptionists at Pied Piper were encouraging people to go back to their rooms and order room service breakfast instead, which - you guess it - also had 45 mins waiting list!
Now to the inconsistency and discrepancy information about the Platinum breakfast. When I asked what I could order using my Platinum amenity, the person on the phone told me I was entitled to the American a Breakfast for two. I asked to check that it indeed was the case as I didn’t receive any Platinum coupon at check in and was directed by Pied Piper to order from room service to alleviate over crowding, and he confirmed. He then proceeded to take my order.
What eventually arrived to the room was very disappointing - scrambled eggs that had been exposed for a while, soggy toasts and bacon, and tepid cappuccinos again with foam exposed.
I got a final surprise at check out when the Front Desk told me that I had to pay a supplement plus tax on the breakfast which I refused, since I was communicated - twice - by Room Dining that I was entitled to American Breakfast x 2. He grudgingly removed the supplement from my bill before muttering under his breath that he needed to have a word with the person who checked me in to provide the Platinum breakfast coupon in the future.
Conclusion - it seems people in this hotel don’t all know what the Platinum breakfast amenity is and where exactly it can be used, so please make sure you’re clearly informed at check in.

Got emails saying the property is expecting to stay closed until early August, and my reservations would be canceled if I didn't get back to them by *tomorrow*a tell them I'd accept rebooking at the Westin St. Francis for the same right. Not great customer service. I canceled and rebooked at the Intercontinental for $100 less.

Booked a FHR one night weekend for May when my favorite baseball team is in town, SD based so won't have to deal with any statewide quarantines. Here's hoping that we can watch games at the park by then....
$250 for breakfast for two and $100 food credit is a pretty good deal. I'm plat and put my Bonvoy number in and it's appearing in the system right away, although it looks like all the FHR benefits are as good if not better than plat? Besides earning points, any additional benefits that plats get that isn't already included with FHR?

I'm planning a stay at the Palace during Independence Day weekend, but only if the Garden Court and Pied Piper restaurants are open. The hotel webpage currently shows both of them as being closed, and no indication of when they might re-open. Has anybody had a recent stay at this place? Any indication of what their going-forward plans are? I emailed a few days ago, but no answer.

Seconding this request. I have a reservation there this coming weekend and the hotel is not returning calls. I'm willing to cut them a bit of slack based on pre-pandemic reviews, but getting worried.

Since this property was a favorite of President Warren Gamaliel Harding one century ago, there is a great deal of interest in this hotel — if the gastronomic offerings are up to snuff.
