I have SPG personal. Anyone with both biz and personal encounter problems getting the additional sign-up bonus? Thanks

Nope. Done it many times.

I don't believe that AX has an intent to exclude existing card holders from this offer but only AX knows. They are specific about this with other cards. For example: getting a Plat Charge card sign up bonus when you are already a Gold or Green charge card holder (excluding special offers.)

If you have an account and are logged in and either click on a card offer link, or go to 'view my offers' you are offered the the AX SPG card with the sign up bonus only.

To get both the sign up bonus and spend bonus, if you already have an AX Card:
Log out of AX
Clear AX cookies (or all cookies.)
Go to www.spg.com
Click on the link for the AX SPG Card. It may be under a "Earn free nights" type of link. If you don't see it, you may be using an adblocker.
This will take you back to the AX site with the 25K Offer.
If for some reason it did not, don't continue.
Don't Log in.
Apply as if you do not have an AX card, but use the same information (Name, Address, SSN) as your current AX card so they can match things up later (to allow the back dating of the the age of account.) Take screen shots if/as needed.
When you get the card, you will need a 2nd AX account to manage it, as this card has it's own rewards system.
After a short amount of time AX will figure out that you are the same person. When this happens, when you log in, your AX SPG will back date from "Member since $YEAR_YOU_APPLIED" to "Member since $YEAR_YOU_GOT_FIRST_AX" Card, although the card then sent you will have the later year.
Meet the spend.
Caveat: this has worked in the past, may or may not continue to work in the future.

I think this valid approach, although I cannot confirm that it works.
As a test, today I cleared my cookies and browsing history. Went to the SPG website, clicked on the offer for the SPG AMEX with 25,000 bonus points (10,000 after first spend..then 15,000 after $5,000 spend). I was taken to an AMEX website that clearly showed the 25,000 point offer. As I was beining to apply, the website offered me the tempetation of completing a "shorter" application form IF i just log in using my existing AMEX account credentials... (i bet you can guess what happens... Right??) Thats Right!! the 25,000 SPG point offer is now replaced with the 10,000 points after first spend-ONLY!!! That is NO 15,000 bonus points after $5000 spend. Oh, but Ive saved myself a few minutes of time by not having to complete the long form...
Gee thanks AMEX :-(

I suspect this is what happened when I applied and why I dont have my 15,000 bonus SPG points...

Dont Let This Happen To You Too!!! 15,000 points is HUGE!!
Its really sad.. Its like SPG wants people to apply and get the 25,000 points, but then AMEX starts playing tricks.

I experience this back in January as well...I never logged in and thus went through with the long form.

I called once I got receipt, and AMEX was still able to tie this card to my existing account via my last name of social security #.

I received my 15k bonus last week...25k pts total. AWESOME :D

Sorry to sort of go off on a tangent, but I just received my business AX SPG card. So if we now have 2 AX SPG CCs (personal and business)shouldn't we get a maximum of 4 stays or 10 nights credit for elite status? If we only get credit for 2 stays or 5 nights, should we call AE or Starwood. I was on line with 2 AE CSRs - the first said that was the maximum (2 stays or 5 days). The second said the same but after looking it up corrected herself and promptly turfed me off to the Starwood CSR who said it was an AE matter. Should I try calling AE a third time and ask to speak to the supervisor if I get the same response or is it indeed a Starwood matter? Thanks in advance

Could this be a timing issue? For example, you say, "I just received my business AX SPG card." If it has been more than a month, then my bet is that AMEX enrolled you into a second account and the 2 stays/5nights from this new SPG Business card are sitting in that account.

I believe the answer is that it's up to Amex. I have both biz and personal cards, and this year I received 2 stays but only 5 nights (so I'm missing 5 nights). SPG pointed me to Amex. I submitted a request via Amex' secure message center, and got back an acknowledgement and "sit tight, we're working on it" about 5 days ago.

Or not.

Update: Amex responded and said "Call SPG." Writing back to the platinum concierge to see what happens. Sigh...

Suggest that they look for a duplicate account created by AMEX.

I've had both SPG Amex personal and biz for years. Have always gotten 4+10.

Follow William's advice and you'll get there.

Exact same issue. I have spent 3 days bouncing back and forth between SPG and Amex.

William has solved it! Thanks very much.

Amex created a duplicate SPG account for me when I opened the business card (no idea why). I noticed it and had them change it to my current SPG account a few days after opening the card. Bonus points posted to the correct account but the 2 stay/5 night credit was credited to the duplicate account.

Thank you Gus321, RetiredRoadWarrior, William (Starwood Lurker), and rudling. Looks like William and Gus 321 were right. It is an AX matter. I talked to a third AX CSR who did not even know that the 2 stay/5 night credit was even an AX SPG card benefit and was very willing to transfer me to SPG. I asked to talk to the supervisor who verified that it was a benefit and was in a duplicate SPG account along with my 10,000+ points. She will hopefully credit this properly. The supervisor said the CSR's computer was on the blink - that was why the CSR did not know the entire benefits package. And I assume the computers of the first two AX CSRs(I talked with) were also on the blink. AMAZING!!! But rudling, you may want to ask to talk with the supervisor of the CSR if the answer is "it is an SPG issue".

If Amex gives you the account number of the Duplicate SPG account you can have them merged by going here:

https://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefe...nts/index.html

You first need to log into the account you want keep and then use the link above to request the other account be merged with your primary account. Only took an hour or so for them to get mine cleaned up.

Planning on applying for this card...timing question

Hi all,

I'm planning on applying for this card this month. I last applied for an Amex card (the Premier Rewards Gold) on Feb 20 and was approved. Is there a specified recommended amount of time I should wait to apply for the Starwood card? Is a 60 day gap between the PRG and SPG Amex apps good enough?

Thanks!

broadwayblue Apr 16, 2013 12:27 pm

Anyone have recent experience regarding pre-paying their SPG Amex prior to making a purchase above their credit limit? Just trying to gauge Amex's temperature as of late...I remember they weren't thrilled with this type of behavior a couple years back when I did it most recently. In the end there were no issues...but they didn't explicitly approve of it, unlike my Citi AA MC which is happy to allow me to run a sizable credit balance on the card prior to making a large purchase.

I would wait until August 2013 for a potential 30K starpoints bonus.
