Yes, look up about 8 posts :)

Details and link for SPG Amex offer

Note it's only currently available on the Personal SPG Amex.

does this work for folks that already have the SPG amex? I would apply for another one if it does... anyone tried?

It's been said previously on FT that if you had an old SPG Amex (the silver one) and apply for the new one (the red one) you should get the new bonus because it's a new flavor of the card. Although, officially, it's one bonus lifetime per card (one personal and one business) so YMMV. If you had the old card and for a while it is probably worth a shot.

I had the old silver card, but SPG AMEX replaced it with the new red one. One day I just got it in the mail that said this is your new card to replace the old one.

The same happened to me and I noticed my "Member Since" date had changed...did you look at yours? I have been a member since 1995 and it reflects 07 - I called and had a discussion with them about this and didn't really get a good answer....decided to live with it.

Right - they did that with everyone. But if you never *applied* for the newer flavor, you may have luck with a new bonus. Though again, YMMV.

Everyone? I have NOT received the new red card yet and continue to use the old blue card every day of the week. My card is good thru June 2009.

MilesTalk Sep 6, 2007 3:03 pm

That's bizarre :) Everyone *should* have gotten a replacement card. But no matter, the old one will still work subject to the new terms (new bonus points, Gold at $30K spend, etc) until expiration.

I haven't received a new card either but a couple of cards I added to my account have the new appearance.

So I know the question of whether or not cancelling and re-applying makes you eligible for the new bonus comes up over and over again...here's a slight twist to it:

I signed up for the card over a year ago under the 4K starpoints for first purchase offer. The points have never posted and i was planning to call to inquire about them. Do you think I can ask for the new bonuses in addition/instead? Or should i call, get the 4,000 before attempting to cancel and re-apply. I've heard that AMEX is good about letting you re-apply for new bonuses and they'll give you the difference between what you've already received and the new offer (if not the new amount in its entirety). Any thoughts?

I noticed that the annual fee listed on the benefits page for new signups has gone up to $45 after the free first year. Will current card holders also be charged this higher annual fee?

Yes, I've been told you will be charged $45 on renewal regardless of the expected fee at signup since the first year was free. However, I believe you may have luck in getting the $15 credited the first (technically the second since first year was free) year if you call when the fee posts - specifying the reason is that when you signed up it said the fee "thereafter" was $30.

Unfortunately I'm in my 3rd or 4th year. Sucks that it's going up, but $45 doesn't really hurt too badly. I mean I pay more than that for Citibank Advantage card which isn't half the card the SPG Amex is.

Does anyone know of or have a link to a promo giving points for adding an authorized user? Thanks.
