Thanks for the response, technique...No, I was offered the 10K signup bonus, I'd be surprised if I scored the 15K. I did get my first month's points, but it was only $30 b/c of the signup date/bill due date.
Still no points for the bill pay 12/27, though. Will call 'em. On my girlfriend's SPG amex she charged $25 on her brand new Amex and the statement closed just a few days later and she got the 10k bonus, so 10,025 points posted immediately... Same for me on my SPG Business card, but on my normal SPG Amex, I haven't gotten ANY bonus points yet, although my regular monthly spending (about $5-8k per month) has posted fine... I will hit the $15k threshold bonus in my March statement, but I am not holding my breath to see that post "instantly" like other people have... :( At least citibank's AA card post immediately when the statements close, that's nice... Especially with the 10k bonus for $10k spend on those cards... |
I just got my card and with it (drum roll, please):
An expired SPG50 certificate (expiration date 12/31/2007). I applied for the card AFTER that date. |

LOL. The certificate is useless anyway.

Well, I was looking at the Westin Auckland for February 28, 29, March 1, and 2.
The lowest rate online for a Superior Room is 345 NZD. I called SPG and the SPG50 rate is 263 NZD for a Superior Room. So, it appears the difference for this 4 night stay would be 328 NZD. I understand the certificate is not useful much of the time, but this time it is. Oh, resolution. AMEX transferred me to a helpful Starwood rep who issued me an e-cert on the spot and I made a reservation for the four nights I wanted using it. |

I would even say that the expired certificate is more useful because there is no way you'll waste your time trying to use it... Whereas if you receive a valid cert, you might try and use it :D

i don't mind the fee. maybe I'll call and see if they can dish out any free points as I didn't expect a rate increase or something:D

Good Job! ^ You've beaten the odds
Maybe I can get some feedback on the difference between a Superior Room and a Junior Suite on the hotel master thread. |

Call AMEX. The regular agents are authorized to credit up to 1,000 points themselves. It sounds like you will be owed lass than that. Just explain you are due double points for the charges at the Starwood property but it seems to still be coded as a Radisson and your points thus did not post. Then simply ask if he/she would be so kind as to post the points. *if* the agent knows at all what you are talking about (which is hit or miss) it should go smoothly.
Once I saw my SPG AmEx points post to my SPG account (and noted that I didn't get double points for the Sheraton Cable Beach stay), I called AmEx. After explaining the problem, Elizabeth in Tucson put me on hold. She soon came back and said that to make up for the points not properly posting and for me having to call in, she'd put 1000 SPG points in my account, and it would show up in 3-5 days. I don't know if a fix to the Sheraton Cable Beach's not showing up properly in the AmEx billing is in the works, or if this is a way to make my problem go away. Well, I'll see if the points show up. If not, I'll call AmEx again and write a letter, and say that I don't recognize the $279 charge from a "Radisson Cable Beach" and that I dispute it. |
psyflyer OR anyone else with actual experience

FYI, I had applied and spent 15K since i gotten it a few weeks ago and Both the 10,000 1rst purchase AND 15,000 bonus points posted today to my spg account. Yesterday was my cut-off date for billing cycle. I am going to cancel this after I pay off the card.
I've seen anecdotal comments in the past that Amex will give incremental bonuses to people who sign up for their products. In other words, if you got 4k in the past for signing up for the SPG Amex, you should be eligible for at least the 6k sign-up difference (10k - 4k) for a new SPG Amex with the possibility of the 15k spend bonus also. Does anyone have actual experience with this situation? Please quantify the bonuses received and indicate whether you had one or more SPG Amex accounts open when this occurred. |
My experience is different than psyflyer. I'm being told that I have to wait 8-12 weeks for my 15,000 bonus points to post. It's been a month and I was told to call back in 2 more months if they don't post. Has anyone else waited 12 weeks for their points to post?

My 2nd statement on my personal SPG Amex just cycled, no 10,000 bonus... I called amex and the rep said she would start an investigation. She called back 10 minutes later and left me a message saying that because I had a starwood BUSINESS card, I was not eligible for the 10,000 bonus on the personal card... (Funny thing is, I opened the starwood business card AFTER the personal card)
I called back and spoke with another rep and she just recited the same thing from the notes. I clearly explained to her that I have seen first hand that bonuses are available for both consumer and business cards. And also, that even if what she was saying was true, since I made my first purchase on my personal card before I had even applied for my business card, that I should get the bonus on my personal card. She put me on hold and after 10 minutes came back and said she would have the original rep that spoke with me call me back. Thoughts? |
