(Funny thing is, I opened the starwood business card AFTER the personal card)

I called back and spoke with another rep and she just recited the same thing from the notes. I clearly explained to her that I have seen first hand that bonuses are available for both consumer and business cards. And also, that even if what she was saying was true, since I made my first purchase on my personal card before I had even applied for my business card, that I should get the bonus on my personal card.

She put me on hold and after 10 minutes came back and said she would have the original rep that spoke with me call me back.

Thoughts?

Technique - I'll help you out here. You are entitled to 1 lifetime bonus per card flavor (business and personal). The regular reps can sometimes get their facts wrong yet be insistent. Don't wait for a rep to call you back. Get thee a supervisor on the line. Supervisors know the deal and can make things right without you waiting 6-8 weeks for a form letter telling you that they reviewed your account and found no issues.

Thanks daveland, much appreciated... So you are suggesting that I call back and immediately ask for a supervisor? Is there anywhere that I could point to or reference where it says that we are entitled to 1 lifetime bonus per card flavor?

The closest thing I saw was in the business card footnotes, it states one bonus per lifetime per BUSINESS card.

"Bonus Starpoints are for first-time Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Cardmembers only."

I was put on hold and told that I shouldn't expect it until the close of the next statement after the 12 weeks is up. She also said it was only 10,000 bonus... the additional 15,000 is for spending 15,000 in the first 6 months.

The points that I am waiting for are for spending $15,000 in the first six months. My 10,000 sign-up points posted a couple of days after the first statement.

That is exactly what you need to reference. You did not previously have a Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card. And that you are fully aware that people with personal Starwood Amex's have been receiving bonuses for opening a Business card ever since it was introduced last year. (Start with only the first part and see if that's all you need to get the Supervisor on your side.)

OK, thanks. Here's the update. Before I got a chance to call them, the original rep I spoke with called me back. This is a few hours later after I originally spoke with her. She told me that she has been researching this and that her supervisors and American express and starwood have agreed to make an exception and credit me the 10,000 bonus points even though I already received a 10,000 bonus point offer before. She said they are doing this because I am such a valued cardmember, etc... (I've been an amex cardmember since 1995, and have around a 500k lifetime spend, which is probably nothing special)

I told her thank you, but that I was still quite positive that everyone is entitled to 10,000 bonuses on the business AND personal side, and I referred her to the terms and conditions. She said "Well, everything that my supervisors, and the other at american express including starwood have told me is that is not true, and that is just an interpretation of the terms and conditions. 1 bonus per person, per lifetime, for business OR personal."

She went on to say that the 10,000 was credited to my account immediately, so I shouldn't worry. I asked her about my 15,000 bonus for $15,000 spend in 6 months and after a few minutes she said that she saw that promo code on my account, and has added to the notes to ensure that I get that bonus once I hit my $15,000 spend (which should happen within 1 month btw as I've been averaging about $5k/month on this SPG personal card)...

So, long story short, she never agreed that 1 bonus per personal and business is allowed. Maybe amex has changed this for 2008? Who knows... In the end, she is correct that the terms and conditions are not the clearest and it doesn't clearly state that we can get two bonuses, one for business and one for personal... It will be up to amex to do the right thing like they did for me... I am satisfied, and will keep my fingers crossed for anyone else in my shoes...

One thing is for sure, their bonus point system is not the best, it seems to be random who gets their points immediately and who has to wait 8-12+ weeks... :(

My husband applied for Starwood Preferred Amex card, with 10,000 bonus point offer, and his statement closed and he paid the bill about 2 weeks ago, but the 10,000 points haven't posted yet. He called Starwood and they said that there is some kind of worldwide problem over the last week or so, where people's 10K bonus points don't post to the account. They are looking into it and couldn't give me a date when it would be resolved. He also tried calling Amex about it and they said that Starwood is the only one who deals with the points.

If you don't see the 10,000 bonus on the amex statement, then the problem is on the amex side, not that starwood is not "receiving" them...

Has anyone who is already a Personal SPG Amex cardholder signed up for the Business SPG Amex card and gotten the 10,000 bonus and the 15,000 spend bonus after 6 months? I am trying to determine if getting the Personal signup bonus (10k) precludes one from getting the Business sign up bonus (10k).

To clarify, I see this has been discussed in this thread, but I would like to see if anyone has actually received the bonus points for both cards.

I applied for the SPG Personal Amex in September and Business in Octobeer and got the 10K first purchase bonus on bother cards. I also got the 15K bonus on the personal card for $15K in purchases. When I applied for the business card, the 15K bonus wasn't being offered.

Incremental or Second Bonus for "New" AMEX

I asked these question a week ago and got no responses. I'm interested in actual experience, not regurgitation of the T&C's.

1. If one signed up for the *wood AMEX previously under a less lucrative sign-up bonus, can they sign up now and get the incremental increase in the bonus (e.g., if I previously received a 4,000-point bonus, will I get a 6,000-point bonus under the current offer of 10,000 points)?

2. Does the answer to 1 change if the customer still holds the original card?

3. Do the answers to 1 and 2 apply to the 15,000-point bonus for spending $15,000 in 6 months?

4. Are people actually getting all of the new sign-up bonus on the reconstituted (burgundy-colored) *wood AMEX (10,000 points) if they previously held the *wood AMEX?

5. Is the answer to 4 different if the customer still holds the original card?

I have seen accounts in these forums that these additional bonuses are being given, but I do not know how widespread this has been. If only one person had this happen to them, I'll chalk it up to a system fluke. If everyone who has done this has gotten the additonal bonuses, then I think it is more news worthy.

I signed up for the *wood business card this month after signing up for the *wood personal card in September.
I signed up 2-3 days in advance of the $15,000/15,000 point spending bonus.
I called AX last week and they said I would get the 10,000 point sign-up bonus AND the 15,000 point for spending $15,000 in the first six months bonus. (Two different agents on 2 different days confirmed and wrote it into my record.)
The 10,000 point sign-up bonus is due to hit the end of the month.
So it looks like you SHOULD get both, EVEN IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY RECIEVED BONUS *WOOD POINTS FOR YOUR PERSONAL CARD.

I appreciate the feedback if you are responding to my questions. However, I meant to limit the discussion to the personal AMEX card only. Except for one or two recent exceptions, I think all evidence points to customers receiving both the personal and business card bonuses. This is standard operating procedure for most, if not all, rewards card programs I have seen.

FWIW, I actually have the same question as you. I only got 4k SPG pts to signup when I did about 3 years ago. I wouldn't mind dumping my SPG Amex when the $45 renewel fee comes around again and opening up a new one as that'll save me $45 and get me either 6k or 10k bonus pts hopefully (and possibly 15k more bonus pts for $15k spending in 6 months if that offer is still going on). ^

ANYBODY HAVE ANY RECENT EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SCENARIO?!?!?!?!
