New Card & 15,000 bonus point offer
I signed up for the Card at the link that offered the 15,000 bonus points after spending $15,000 in 6 months, when I got the card last week and all details of the program that comes with it there is no mention of the 15,000 bonus point offer?
Is this normal or do I need to call them to see if I have the bonus attached to my card. Thanks |

Is this normal or do I need to call them to see if I have the bonus attached to my card. Thanks Consider I just took a Citibank Business American Airline Visa card with no fee first year and 25,000 miles and 20,000 miles for opening Visa AA consumer card which requires 250 dollars in spending to achieve the sign up bonus. That’s a first class ticket for l k in spending In your case thats a lot of charging to aquire 5k in points All for an extra approx 100 dollars in SPG points or less for the new American Express card. But then many of us are SPG point junkies ;) It doesn't always have to make great sense  Back to your question and a good one Being American Express and Starwood are both trustworthy business partners I would not be concerned about calling In fact it usually leads to frustration as agents typically have a tougher time then SPG locating such information when you call. However trustworthy as they are both Starwood and American Express have a history of offering multiple confusing offers and putting them all out there all at one time. Then losing all paper trails and in some rare cases even the very data base information. That is Amex I am speaking of to be clear My advice with twenty years plus as an American Express card holder print out everything and retain all paperwork as a back up plan and you will be absolutely fine. If you don't see your points post within the first 60 days you are welcome to contact me and I would be delighted to get you a contact at Amex who will post them over to SPG. Something I have done for hundreds of SPG card holders over the years past. Now how about a nice gift out of that first 15k in spending for all that helpful advice :D Happy Holidays Cheers |

SWEET offer though an awful lot of spending required IMO.

Unless you pay everything in cash, I'm not sure why some people ignore the spending bonuses. You have to put your spending SOMEWHERE anyway, so pick the best spending bonus. SPG is basically giving you double points on your spending. Citi is giving 1m/$. P.S. In fairness, Citi does have another offer you didn't mention. You can get double miles on your first $10,000 each year for 2 years. |

I don't think this is a valid comparison.
P.S. In fairness, Citi does have another offer you didn't mention. You can get double miles on your first $10,000 each year for 2 years. however it really depends on what point or mile currency one prefers And while the offers may be different the ones I refer too and the SPG card both require spending thresholds to get the maximum bonus points or mile offered that each card allows IMO I see it as a fair comparison.Though I may be the only one :o :) |
My point is that the signup bonus and spending bonuses are completely separate, and so it's not valid to compare them directly. You can get the signup bonus for some card yet spend on another.

Then there are those of us who charged more than $50K in 2007 on our SPG Amex card, didn't get any spending bonus, and didn't need the automatic SPG Gold membership that comes with charging $30K or more (as this human is already an SPG Platinum by dint of travel, and even if not, is SPG Gold for life from his SVO timeshare purchases).
But hey, the Starpoints are worth it. :) |

Yes, I've been told you will be charged $45 on renewal regardless of the expected fee at signup since the first year was free. However, I believe you may have luck in getting the $15 credited the first (technically the second since first year was free) year if you call when the fee posts - specifying the reason is that when you signed up it said the fee "thereafter" was $30.
Here was their response:

Because we value your membership, we have credited your account for $15.00. Please note that this is one time credit for your membership fee. |

I wa only charged $30 on my renewal in December
I wonder if that is because my card is a *wood business card. Anyways, I am not complaining.

Quick question (did a search but came up with bupkus): I've only had SPG about three months...paid most recent bill 12/27. Still no post of points for monthly spend to SPG.com account. Is this normal? Thanks for any advice.

If you are talking about your regular 1 point per $1 purchase each month, those should post to your SPG account a few days after your statement closes... Have you ever had any points from your SPG card post? |
Thanks for the response, technique...No, I was offered the 10K signup bonus, I'd be surprised if I scored the 15K. I did get my first month's points, but it was only $30 b/c of the signup date/bill due date.
Still no points for the bill pay 12/27, though. Will call 'em. |
