They do have a CL and on the weekends, I have received breakfast coupons for the buffet in Shulas Steakhouse. It is for the cold breakfast, but I believe they only charge a couple of dollars to upgrade to the hot breakfast. It is a nice CL as well.

To add to the above; I'm a Plat. and stayed there last weekend - great hotel in a perfect location.
However, I did not get certificates for the cold buffet at Shulas - after the desk clerk said "thanks for being a Platinum" - at check-in, I asked if the lounge was open on weekends, they said "sorry, no" and I followed up with "ok, no problem - do you offer coupons for the restaurant" and also got a "oh, sorry, no, we don't". I know it's not something that is part of the benefits but it never hurts to ask.
They were very nice in every other way - got a great corner room with a nice view, etc.
So, great hotel - YMMV on the weekend breakfast for plats - it didn't happen for me - but we did go to a great place around the corner for breakfast called "The Ruby Slipper" http://www.therubyslippercafe.net/

Fabulous CL at this property, with attentive and friendly staff. On my last visit, I was a little late for the evening buffet, but they kindly made me a to-go plate. I have stayed here probably two dozen times, and have always received terrific service. Ask for a corner room -- a nice upgrade.
I do not recommend the FS Marriott across the street. It has a much more convention-like feel, and the service is far more impersonal. Stick with the JW.

There were two or three very good very New Orleans-style breakfasts on the old menu before Shula's. One was called Eggs Sardou, and something even better with salmon. At first they were not carried over and off the menu after Shula's opened, but then they were put back on sort of up in the corner called "Old Favorites" or something.
That series of meetings ended years ago and I have not had reason to be back since, so sorry to bother you if they are long gone. No matter how good, the concept of a chain steak house in New Orleans just seems out of place.

My wife and I stayed here recently, and it's a great hotel. There is no drink service in the lobby bar, so you have to go belly up to the bar and get a drink, and sometimes the Shula's bar will be the only one open.
But the concierge lounge is very nice. They had some nice appetizers which could make a very light meal. The hotel had the feel of a boutique hotel, and was just very quiet, clean, modern and so forth.

Glad this Thread is up today! I have a big bachelor party going to New Orleans the end of May. I have been trying to book the right hotel and was thinking the JW would be good. I was also considering the Ritz though, for a bout the same price. One of my questions, is there a casino in the hotel? I thought there was for some reason but now I am not sure. Also what about the Ritz, if I can get it for around the same price should I get the JW or the Ritz? Im leaning toward the JW just because I know where that hotel is and thought there was a casino in the hotel. Any opinions greatly appreciated!

The Harrah's Hotel and the Hilton Riverside are on Poydras and right ouside the southwest side of the casino. The Hilton is huge and very nice. The downside is that these hotels have a bit of a hike to Bourbon Street, whereas both Marriotts are just a block away.
The Doubletree is on the northeast entrance to the casino and much closer to Bourbon street. My wife has stayed here once and reports that the rooms were small.
By the way, parking at all the hotels costs about $32 a day, but if you gamble 30 minutes, even on a nickle slot, you can park 24 hours for free next to the Hilton and Harrah's Hotel. So for free parking, just play 30 minutes a day, wait 24 hours, move your car, repeat.

I don't mind staying anywhere in NO (preferably close to the French Quarter). As long as I can use my MR points...

The Ritz is a fine location, too. It's only a block or so away. I haven't been inside, though.
The JW is a great hotel in a perfect location. I recently went to a bachelor party staying at the Roosevelt (a Waldorf hotel), which is also not a typical "bachelor party" hotel, but it worked out great. We honestly didn't spend a ton of time in the room.
The casino is about a ten minute walk from any of these hotels and from Bourbon street.
Honestly, I'd recommend staying where you can get the best deal.

I liked both of the Ren's in NoLa. be aware that the Arts location is in the renovated "arts/warehouse"district and it is a further walk to the FQ-but there is plenty to do around that area also and there are some great restaurants nearby(including Emeril's)
But they are a different breed with a younger feel. Not a bad thing at all.
The PM is a refurbished office building and some folks feel the rooms are cramped.IMO that may be correct but the NoLa Marriott(NOT the JW) has some of the smallest(and dumpiest)rooms I have ever seen at a Marriott property

I've stayed at the JW, Pere Marquette (Ren), and the Marriott. Also booked a friend at the CY on St. Charles and checked it out. Personally, I liked the Pere Marquette the best. Was impressed with the JW... it was fine, but not worth any premium. The Marriott probably has the best location.
As others have said, probably won't be in the room much, so unless you're using points, I would just book the cheapest hotel at the level you want. Since it's at the end of May, should be plenty of great deals.
