Looking at this resort in February, is it worth getting the US Bonvoy card here in Canada, the one that gives you platinum status? And would that cover breakfast, for 2 or a full party of four booked in 2 rooms.

Breakfast is only for the member plus 1. They won’t extend to 4. It would be a simple math on the card if you would use it enough to pay for the yearly fee.

Beginner question: for the half board fee, it says "Above rates are inclusive of 10% service charge and 12% goods and services tax.", so it mean $95 already includes the taxes and fees right? Whereas, if I order a la carte, I would see $x++ meaning I have to pay additional 20% right?

If I am not good at swimming, the new south pier is better since it is closer to the lagoon? I should probably pick the sunrise villa and not take any upgrade to sunset?

The meal packages include tax and service fee. A la carte does not which adds c. 22.3% to the net price shown in the menus. If you are doing half board, your drinks will be charged by consumption and incur the 22.3% additional charge.

The whole island of the resort is placed in a lagoon, i.e. all waters surrounding the island are sheltered from the ocean. The water depth of the lagoon varies with the tide. Usually it ranges from knee deep to hip deep, so swimming should not be an overly dangerous activity (unless you venture out to the reef or the part of the lagoon between the reef and the two islands. The resort provides life vests in the villas/bungalows (and encourages the use of those vests).
There is a reef ("house reef") just off the north pier. The water above the reef can also be shallow, but be aware, that you should only swim above the reef and never (as in NEVER) make contact with anything underwater. So if you're not confident enough to keep yourself afloat for a few minutes, you should probably not swim where there is any reef (or any kind of inhabited structure inside the lagoon). There's a steep drop at the reef with the water depth going to 30 ft and more quite rapidly.
But again, as long as you just swim and plunge close to the villas and the beach, even inexperienced swimmers should be fine.
BTW: On the south pier, the (noticeable but not very strong) current will push you towards the sunset villas and pull you away from the sunrise villas. However, since the water tends to be shallow there, you can always just walk back to the ladder leading up to you villa.

Thanks so much for your detailed reply @funkbandit

So for novice swimmers, what is the best villa you would recommend? Going in a few weeks and trying to send them a wish list for room location =)

For meal plan, for my partner and kid do not drink, it seems like half or full board would be the most appropriate? Is there any package deal for water activities as it looks like individual activity can add up very quickly....

Thanks again!

I think you're thinking about this too hard. It's salt water. It's almost effortless to float unless you are rail thin, and in that case, just inflate your lungs and you'll still float.

All water off any of the villas is not very deep, nor has a tough current. It's just a matter of how far out you want to be able to go, and how easily you want to get to deeper water. If you want easier access to deeper water (but still ~15 min out) then you want the north pier. If it doesn't matter to you, then it doesn't matter which pier you're on. I'd be more concerned about each pier's location to restaurants and other amenities than which is better for a novice swimmer when the water is barely waist deep in most of it.

My wife would like to know if there is body wash in the shower? We were watching videos on the resort but couldn't tell if there was or not.

Thanks to all the contributions upthread, I've enjoyed reading along with everyone's experience. We're headed to LM in December and I've got a few questions (If these have been recently addressed feel free to point me in the right direction)

We're arriving ~7AM local on AF (in J if it matters...), this looks like one of the peak arrival times. We will have carry-on luggage only, what sort of wait should we expect at customs? Wait for seaplane transfer? The resort offers a "CIP" (VIP I guess?) transfer service for $215 per person/ per way (ouch). Does anybody have experience with this? If this could get us to the resort hours earlier, we might consider it.

Our departure, again on AF, is 9:15AM local time, right after the resort cutoff at 9AM for international departures. Will we have any issues with this timing?

With the south pier being open, is there any reason to request this over the north pier? We're booked into sunrise OW. We value the ability to swim off from the room towards the house reef and snorkel (seems quite the trek from the south pier to the house reef). The consensus seems to been that sunrise is better, in part, due to the calm waters, is this the reverse for the south pier? (Sunrise villas look to be facing "inward").

For the meal plans, what data points are out there for "up-charges" for dishes not included? We'd likely go with the all inclusive option. For example, lets say one night we go to Tabemasu and I want the Wagyu tenderloin which is not on the AI meal plan and a la carte is $85. Ballpark guess for an up-charge, or data points?

What sort of weather can we expect to see in early Dec? Any seasonal weather patterns, say it will rain every afternoon?

I would say 10-15 minutes wait. There is a separate queue on the left hand side for Business and First Class. As for sea plane wait, this is outside of hotel's control and depends on how quickly they will have enough people going to Le Meridien (or to resorts in the same area). You might wait very little or you might need to wait 2 hours in the Lounge.

I think the "CIP" service would only help you to skip the 10-15 minutes queue, not sure whether they would pick you up directly from plane, if that would be the case, then some additional time could be save. But I don't think it guarantees you any earlier departure on the sea plane.

I have seen sea planes departing from the resort as early as 7AM, so 9:15AM departure shouldn't be an issue.

I think for snorkeling, I would go with the north pier. Don't see any specific advantages of south pier. Maybe being closer to breakfast restaurant?

I have no experience here.

I think there is no real pattern. It should be getting less rainy in general throughout December. I had some stays in mid December that were quite cloudy with some heavy downpours (but usually short ones, some of them in the morning), but it doesn't mean that you can't have a perfect weather with a bit of luck.

Just got platinum status. I am not seeing any dining discounts with platinum anymore even on the Marriot website. However people have talked about discounts on this and other forums, though not recently. Is that a benefit that has been removed?

Hi rakeshs_ca,

Congratulations on achieving Platinum elite status.

We can confirm that the F&B discount for Marriott Bonvoy members has ended as of 30 June 2022. While the promotion has come to an end, members can still continue to earn and redeem points on their food and beverage spend at participating restaurants and bars across Asia Pacific, even without a hotel stay. With more than 900 properties, 2000 F&B venues and an array of lifestyle, finance and airline partners across the region, Marriott Bonvoy members have more ways to earn, redeem and enjoy exclusive benefits.
