Current’s not bad. No problems snorkeling. Saw a big stingray (3+ ft) just off the back of the bungalow. Further up on the pier (not in the water at the time) could see a massive eagle ray swimming by. Would probably say the water averages about 3-3.5 ft within most the house reef. Super clear.

I’m somewhat fit and an experienced diver though, for whatever that’s worth for snorkeling. It’s obviously salt water though so floating is easy if you have even a small bit of body fat on you.

Do you happen to know how many pool villas were added? Thanks!

Overall, would you recommend a sunrise overwater villa the end of the west jetty or a villa at the end of the new pier? Thanks

I don't want to pay 1200 bucks 3 months ahead of time given how rapidly things are changing in this environment and then try to recoup it especially because these weren't the terms that were presented.

Where would you even snorkel on that side? The reef looks so far away. Can you show us on the map?

And same question, would you recommend the new side? Not sure what the difference is, but i imagine its a lot louder since its closer to the seaplanes too.

I can count six one bedrooms on the sunset side of the new pier with pools. I assume the two bedrooms at the end of the pier also have a pool but those are faced away.

For what it's worth, I booked with points into a sunrise overwater. I inquired via email about cash upgrades to sunset OW w/ pool and was quoted $300++ per night which was more than I wanted to spend. A few days before checking in I saw on the app that I was upgraded (Platinum) to sunset OW no pool. Upon check-in they mentioned the previous $300 offer and then offered an upgrade to pool for $150++ per night which I took. I am not sure if this would be SOP or if it was some combination of me showing interest ahead of time, them fulfilling the initial upgrade to sunset no pool, and relatively low occupancy right now. But, it doesn't hurt to ask to see what your options are. Having the pool is really, really nice.

It's a further walk from the new pier to some of the more enticing things. Tabemasu (Japanese restaurant) is literally on the original pier, all the way across the island. The adults-only pool/bar Riviera is also near the end of that pier. Waves (mostly coffee) is also more on that side of things. The new pier is a little closer to the front desk ("Hub") but I've not really needed to go there for anything as they're super quick via the chat option on the app for just about anything. Turquoise (buffet) and Velaa are a little closer to this pier though. How much any of this matters when you can call a golf cart anytime you like? I guess it depends if you feel guilty getting a ride all the time vs walking occasionally. I'm a fairly fast walker and it took about 15 min to walk from Tabemasu to the end of the new pier. Luckily most of the island road itself is pretty well shaded by vegetation, but walking up these long piers in the middle of the day can be killer if the sun is out.

Well that's fair, you can probably request to wait a bit. They didn't press me on it until I was about 3 weeks out. Others have reported success getting it added to the folio.

I mean, you snorkel anywhere. it's not a huge continuous reef or anything but there's reefy bits just off the villas with plenty of sea life. I think it's more ideal for snorkeling because there's plenty of sandy spots to put your feet down if you need to, versus worrying about damaging coral at every turn. I'm not sure if the original pier has a better reef as I've not hauled the snorkel gear all the way over there.

See above for thoughts on the new side. I have not been able to hear a single sea plane from the room but I am towards the end of the pier. Earlier in the thread some folks reported that the sea planes would sometimes (scarily) take off toward the original pier where people might be swimming. So that's at least not an issue here as the seaplane dock is on the other side of the island.

Are you talking about the lagoon area? Like just south of the lagoon villas? Trying to find the best place i can take my 5 year old son without me or him freaking out haha.

I was in the "new" South pier recently. Seaplane noise was not an issue there. You could see the planes come in and sometimes see them take off. But since they do not operate before 6 am and after 6 pm (give or take).

Swimming around the southern lagoon was easy. The water is shallow, however, the current flows from west to east. So when you enter the lagoon on the sunset side, it will push you towards the villas. On the sunrise side, it will pull you away. This is not an issue, but enough to notice. The southern lagoon has some stones/coral and seagrass patches where you can see marine life. Moreover, some rays or even small reef sharks (baby size) will visit every so often. The house reef about 15 minutes walk/swim from the entrance ladder from the northern pier is very different. There is so much more marine life there. A walk from the bottom of the southern pier to the entrance ladder on the northern pier is about three quarters of a mile. But you can always call a cart to pick you up at your villa and take you to the entrance point.

It is true that the occasional seaplane will take off in the direction of the house reef. But when you stay inside the buoys and don't swim beyond the first island you will be fine.

Just a datapoint for whoever wants it. They sent me an email to pay the seaplane. I requested to pay during my stay, and they said they will make an exception and allow me to pay in person. Hopefully, they'll let me use my GC's for it.

Bicycles?

Hello the one thing I loved at St Regis was riding the bikes around the small Island after breakfast. I understand you pay for bikes here, my question is do many rent them are people riding bikes often? Are they nice bikes?

Visiting the hotel in a few weeks. I was wondering whether or not they actually weigh checked bags + carryons + backpack for the seaplane transfer?

Does the hotel give free snorkel rentals? Are they new or 'used' rentals?
