Data point for upgrading cert: Thanks to the information in this thread, I was able to convert my 2 OC8 to NC5 with 30k refund each, then upgraded both to NC6.

UK office was closed so ended up calling US line.

First call, agent claims neither 30k refund nor upgrade was possible. I thanked her politely and called again in 5 minutes.

Second call, it seems to be the same agent (same name and voice), but since I'm already in the middle of the call, I just went ahead and asked for the same thing again. She transferred me to her colleague, who was able to both do a 30k refund on each cert, upgrade both to NC6, and attach one of them for a stay. The process took 45 mins.

Good luck to everyone who has yet to convert, it's definitely possible to convert and/or upgrade with the information found here.

Did you receive credit for the 7 nights?

Stay is underway, but I don’t expect I will. It makes no difference to me as I already have LT status.

Can anyone confirm that converting a legacy 7night certificate to the new version will extend the expiration date? Thanks.

Yes, it'll be 12mo from the day of conversion.

I am confused - OC6 is the 30K night properties and that category no longer exists. To upgrade to the NC5 which is the 35K night properties, it has been extra 30K if it is from OC6, no? Only when the cert is already converted to an NC then it would cost a lot more to upgrade.

Or what you are saying is, OC6 has 75K refund value, and to upgrade to NC5, you need to pay 30K but the kind UK agent has given you 30K courtesy points to offset the additional 30K you have to pay to get the NC5?
That would make sense with your 105K explanation.

Hi Happy, it was your second scenario. They refunded me 75k points and then gifted me 30k points to offset the additional 30k points it costs to get the NC5. I guess I am lucky!

Thank you Jess for confirming it. You are indeed lucky! ;)

Hey all

I’m currently sitting on an OC5; 530T and looking for a little guidance. Although it doesn’t expire until June 2019, should I be looking at converting it sooner rather than later?

This is completely personal - depends on when you want to use it and if you want to try to upgrade. If you plan to use in the next 12mo and want to upgrade I'd work on securing the upgraded cert now. If you want to use it in Jan 2020 for a NC4 then I'd hold off on converting.

I'm 0 for 3 so far on attempts to upgrade on the US line (old category 1-5 trying to go to new category 6). Last agent I spoke to said that he has seen how some agents did an override, but that it's "screwing things up in their system and that he can't do it."

Thanks Willbur

I do want to use it since I gifted it to my wife for Xmas and told her it was something we should consider using. It be a shame to let it go to waste.

That said, I wouldn’t mind upgrading to probably a new cat 5 (or more maybe) since it allows a little more options than the 1-4 does. What’s the going rate for upgrading? Is it 30K or 60K per category?

Otherwise if I keep it as is and convert it to new program, I should hold off upgrading until closer to June expiry which will take it to June 2020?

Has anyone been able to convert an OC4 5-nighter to a NC7? Is that even feasible?

kapooncha Dec 27, 2018 7:16 pm

Hi guys, have a new Cat 1-4 certificate (was converted from the OC 1-5). Currently attached to a Renaissance property but I'd like to switch to a Westin. Is my cert valid at the Category 4 Westin?

I don’t think anyone has converted to a NC7. Others have had luck upgrading their certificate a tier or two through the UK line.

upgrade from 4 to 5 is 30k. When’s your existing expiration date?
