Nope.

I just tried searching those dates and see most properties have availability for points (looking for a room with 2 adults). A couple that do not are mostly Cat 5 properties. Which 6 properties were you wanting to stay in that did not have availability?

it may be that since I was looking for 4 adults (2 teens, 2 adults) I got limited results. It seems some places allow 4 to a room, some don’t.

That is likely why. A couple of properties limit two to a room. A couple of more limit 3 to a room, some with surcharge. The effect being you will see much less availability in Bali when searching 4 to a room.

Based on my experience with this Marriott TP, I got the best values with the TPs attached to the best properties. The TPs get the lowest value being un-attached.

For the lucky ones, you can even harvest points from this conversion and not losing any value at all.

This is so frustrating. I have an OC5 7 night cert. expiring in March. I'm trying to come up with what is best. How are you all using these?? What is the best redemption? I know that is a lower category...now a 4, correct?

There are plenty nice properties overseas. Forget about large metro centers like NYC or Chicago.

Go to China or Vietnam and have a nice vacation there.

With limited exceptions, the list of OC5 and the list of NC4 properties are quite similar. A lot of CYs and FIs, particularly in mid-size to large cities in the US. There are some decent properties (Autograph Collections) in lower cost countries, but nothing that will probably blow you away.

My plan is to find an agent willing enough to let me convert OC5 to NC5 (with a small "upgrade" cost in points). There are some much more appealing properties that are NC5s.

Your OC5 cert could be redeemed at properties that cost 25K pts/night. Your NC4 cert can be redeemed at properties that cost 25K pts/night. Nothing has changed except the category number. Yes, there was some slight tweaking of categories on Aug 18, but those were all announced in April so you had time to book any properties that were going up in price, or wait to book properties that were going down in price.

So most properties that you had in mind when you purchased the Travel Package should still be bookable with your cert. As mentioned here, there are some great redemption opportunities in Asia. Good luck!

Oh, and when you call in to get your cert reissued from OC5 to NC4, it should automatically be extended for a year.

.

I described the experience below earlier but did not get any response. I have five old OC-5 TCs and need one for a stay later this month. I called to convert one, the agent called supervisor, the supervisor converted all 5. Thus, all TC will expire one year from now, which is not what I wanted. I called back to say that I have not decided what to do about the other 4, that I may want to get 45K points refunded for some of them. A supervisor got real upset and said, no, you cannot get the 45K pt refund, He said I should have received an email last August that all TCs must be used before the MR-SPG merge. (I did not receive that email). He then challenged me to show him where in the Marriott web that says the (old)TCs can be refunded. I told him that was in the terms and conditions of the original TCs. He said, "show me!". But of course it is no longer on the web. He then yelled at me saying you read too much on the forums (FT) and then he hang up the phone.

I don't think we're dealing with the wonderful Marriott CSRs in OMA any longer. :(

One quick question about the expiration date of NCs. Does the stay have to be completed by the expiration date or to be booked by the expiration date?

flyer05 Jan 8, 2019 6:14 am

Are we sure that we won’t be able to get these extended further when the expiration date comes?

iamamy Jan 8, 2019 6:41 am

Let me know how this goes. I would also like to try that avenue!!!

My understanding is that the stay has to be begun (i.e., check-in) while the certificate is valid, but once begun the consecutive nights can extend beyond the expiration date.

However, we do not have data points yet on the NC since they are too new, and I am not aware of Marriott officially saying one way or the other.
