First of all, thank you to all the people who have shared their experiences on this thread. The info was invaluable to me. Last night I spent over an hour with five different reps trying to convert my 7 day OC9 to a NC. Most reps had no idea how to proceed so I kept getting passed along. I also used HUCU three times. But to no avail. Comments from them ranged from “WOW you are the second person tonight to ask to do this and I have asked everyone and no one knows how to do it” to “Well you can only get a NC4. no way you can get an NC6”. When I would quote things I had read on here to try to help the process along, I had two reps tell me that those blog people lie. OMG. Finally one gal said since she couldn’t figure it out from her Manuel, she would send me to a Priority supervisor as I am Platinum. This man was very nice and apologized for the other five reps who didn’t know what they were doing, but was adamant that I could not pay extra points to turn my OC9 into a NC7 which is what I wanted to do. I finally agreed to have him convert it to a NC6 with a new expiration date a year from today. He put me on hold to do the conversion and came back and said it was all done. I asked him to please wait while I checked my account just to make sure it was showing correctly on my end. He said that wasn’t necessary but I told him I was now 90 minutes into this and didn’t want to have to call back. I logged in and my account said I had a 5 day NC6. I read this to him and he said he had done a 7 day, but he would log back in and double check. Yep. He saw a 5 day and apologized and said he must have made a mistake. I was very kind (though I wanted to respond differently) and just laughed it off. He fixed it, I relogged in and saw the correct one and thanked him. He said again that he felt bad and was putting 30,000 points in my account. Nice gesture. But, OMG, why is this process so very painful??? I had been putting this off and it was hanging over my head and I am just glad it is done. UGH. But again, thanks to all of you because if I hadn’t garnered so much knowledge from reading all of these comments, it would have been all messed up.

Hypothetical - if I was able to convert OC9 to NC7 - would i be able to apply it to this type of reservation?

I have 5 nights at StR Bora Bora on points, and can get two more nights with points + cash upgrade.

Would I be able to apply the NC7 (if I was able to obtain) to this reservation?

Theoretically if all 7 nights were on points it would be possible. Have not seen any data points on anyone doing it yet though.

I am eyeing a 7 night NC7 stay for a few properties too

On the upside it looks like a 5 day NC6 is possible :)

OC9 to NC7 is technically possible, for 150K. Not sure about NC6 to NC7, my guess is you won't find an agent willing/able to do it.

I never tried with my certificate but would have been nice

Can someone shed some light on this for me? I must be really dumb but I don’t get the value of the TP.

I am looking at a 7 night stay at a Cat 6 property. At 50k per night and the 5th night free, seven nights will cost me 300k points. The cat 6 TP’s cost:
Category 6 435,000 for 7 nights plus 50k miles and
Category 6 510,000 for 7 nights plus 100k miles

What am I missing? Is ‘buying’ 50k miles for 135,000 MR points or 100k miles for 210,000 MR that good of a deal?

A couple more codes that are missing from the wiki (if someone would like to update it?)

The 7-Night Partial Package Tier 4-5 reward code is/was L870 (I don't know the xx0T initial package code), i.e. for the wiki: "NC7 QL87 = OC Tier 4-5 L870 (refund value: 315K)"
The 7-Night Partial Package Tier 1-3 reward code is/was L830 (I don't know the xx0T initial package code), i.e. for the wiki: "NC6 QP99 = OC Tier 1-3 L830 (refund value: 195K)"

This goes someway (or perhaps the whole way!) to explaining why the NC7 is QLxx not QPxx.

[This is the first time I have attempted using BB codes so please go easy on me if I have completely ballsed them up.]

OK, I took a stab at updating the wiki, even though I'm hardly an expert on TPs. Was hoping someone more knowledgeable would do it. Let me know if this looks right.

And thank you for the data points and also for the correct format so it was an easy copy/paste!

Thanks margarita girl

It all looks correct. The only other input/suggestion is that the "Remaining Properties" section can now be deleted as all SPG properties have now been migrated. I would do this myself but I assume I don't have permission to tinker with the wiki.

The TPs used to be great value. Using Category 6 (i.e. OC9) as an example, you used to be able to buy it + 100k miles for 370,000 MR points (140,000 MR less than the new pricing!).

You could 'buy' up to 120k miles per TP (plus 10% more with United), with each increase being 1 MR point per mile, i.e. OC9 + 120k miles used to be 390,000 MR points. 1 MR point per mile for most people represented great value especially compared to your analysis/question above (135,000 MR points for 50k miles, or 2.7 MR points per mile).

The new ones offer poor value. (tbd peak pricing)

The old ones are what everybody is still talking about...

Done. Since I posted them, I figured I’d delete them. I also took the liberty of adding jameswes’s excellent post to the wiki as a “best practice”. Thank you!

As others have noted, the former Travel Packages were the "good deal". That was because of the miles part of the package. Essentially you were paying full price for the rooms and getting the miles at a cost of 1 mile for 1 MR point. That is now history.

To answer the second set of questions, it depends on how you value MR points and airline miles (and each airline has its own price for their miles, with a few variations such as bonus sales) Personally, I value MR points at about one cent each (because I am able to redeem them for rooms at about that rate). I believe you can buy them at 1.25 cents per point. I value United miles at about 1.5 cents each, again based on what I can redeem them for. (At one time I valued the miles at about two cents each, but that is also history.) Based on those comparative values, the miles would be costing you 2.7 cents in the first case, and 2.1 cents in the second; so in my opinion neither is a good deal.

Forget about the new TP as there is no value to be had there.

The old TPs are what everyone here has, redeemed before the cut off deadline, most without specific places to stay at the time of redemption but the value of it could not be passed up if one had the points to do so, due to the miles portion was already good value, then the hotel stay became an extreme bargain when used.

This thread would continue to live on until most old certs are used up. I bet you many old certs that were redeemed at the last days leading to the cut off, i.e. late July, are still not being converted to new certs yet because the conversion would mean a new start of life of the cert, and probably the only chance to be able to do an upgrade to new category with points. Therefore many of us still have old certs sitting in our accounts until closing in their expiration dates which should start from Mid July this year.

5 Night Travel Package

I have a few questions to those who are familiar with the 5 night package.

1. Do you know the refund rate for an OC9 and an OC8?
2. Is it possible to upgrade from the OC9 to a NC7?
I have a 5 night point stay at a Cat7 hotel, 5th night free, for 240K points. Trying to figure out if converting my OC9 to a NC7 to use at the hotel or just keep my 240K points stay.
Thank you in advance.
