Sorry for the silly question but if I take a 7nt + 50K miles package does it actually give 8 nights (ie taking into account the book 5 pay 4)?

No. You only get 7 total nights with the cert. I believe it shows as 6 nights plus one free in the breakdown. You do not get 8 nights on a 7 night cert.

My experience today with redeeming a converted certificate started with 3 calls but ended up with all 3 former-SPG agents that don’t have the system to attach (less than 5 minutes each because I cut them off and said I’ll call Marriott myself). 4th call I got a Marriott agent and attached my certificate to a current reservation within 1 min.

For or those that want to attach to SPG property and you end up with an SPG agent, kindly ask them to make a reservation for you without attaching any certificates (plus they don’t know how to do it). Then call Marriott to attach.

I was told last week by a pretty knowledgeable agent that the 1-yr extensions were still possible.

That is why mine is still Not converted. I am waiting to see if there are more data points for Upgrading an old TP.

When you convert your old pre 8/18 cert into a NC post 8/18 cert, which you must do to attach it in the new system, a new cert will be created with a new expiration date 1 year from the date of conversion. So wait to convert your old cert until a little before it would expire and then convert it to an NC cert and you will extend the date by a year from the date of conversion.

I was able to upgrade two 5 night TP certificates from an OC 4 to a NC 5. Both upgrades cost me 45K points each.

I have 7 nights at the Wailea Beach Resort - Marriott, Maui, via an old TP7 booked for Jan 19.
Currently have a Garden View, Guest room, 1 King or 2 Queen, Balcony, and would love something bigger.

Anyone had any luck with having them change to a better room? I have no status, but am willing to pay some $$ to upgrade.

It's been reported here, that the mere fact of calling to have your OC cert updated to a NC cert will extend it by a year. ^

Edit: Oops, and I see skimthetrees has already made the same suggestion!

Stayed there this past February and was upgraded to an ocean view while on a TP5 nights. Of course, it help that at that time I was Marriott Gold, but they did not offer breakfast. Now as a Platinum at New Marriott Elite tier system, they say they offer some pastry and coffee at Starbucks. Well, I rather get a good room after Christmas, than the breakfast they are offering. You might have luck paying for an upgrade (Up-sell).
