I wonder how many hours I have put on the phone with Marriott agents for the past two months. Must be more than a hundred hours by now.

OC6 just converted to NC5 using MasterGeek's instructions through the UK call center. Awesome.

I hold an OC6 cert, also just converted to a NC5 using the UK call office. First agent was polite and told me that I could upgrade, but if I downgraded there would be NO points refund. Because his information was wrong, I decided I would rather him not process the transaction, so I hung up and called again. Second agent was extremely nice and confirmed I could either pay 30K points to upgrade or receive 30K points to downgrade. I opted to upgrade. I half-jokingly asked her to do it for 0 points, got shot down right away :).

She also said I could upgrade or downgrade the cert in the future at will, just like the old packages, so my choice was not set in stone at all. Not sure if I believe that or not, but she was adamant that it was indeed the case.

Took her 10 seconds to do the transaction once I made my choice, she had clearly done it before.

Interestingly she was able to quickly transfer my points from my SPG account without merging them. So I'm leaving my accounts un-merged for now and will simply transfer points through the call center as needed.

Phoned the UK call centre earlier today, 20 min wait then a helpful french-accented agent answered. I explained I wanted to make a booking for a Westin property. She checked and said it was NC5 and I had an OC6 TP so would need to convert it & upgrade - she pulled the 30k across from my linked but un-merged SPG account without an issue and I duly received email for cancellation of 870T and reissue of QP91 (105k = 75k from old package and 30k from SPG account). She then said she would need to transfer me to SPG to make booking. A bit more of a hold, SPG agent checked availability on points (which I'd already done), but then wasn't sure how to apply package. After another 20 min of waiting came back and said it wouldn't be possible to use TPs on SPG until 20th September. Fingers-crossed availability holds until then but seems like they do at least think it should be do-able, she was happy my cert was showing as NC5, which matched the hotel I wanted (some confusion when she said it was only 105k package but I explained that was the purchase price, not the value!).

Will call back in 4 days and see...

PS despite receiving email and SPG balance dropping by 30k, no activity lines in either Marriott or SPG accounts (checked both on website and mobile app) - I thought something would have shown up, the new TP is showing correctly.

This is a great DP.
Did you see the Marriott account balance went up by the corresponding amount? Or the points are just used to order the upgrade cert?

I need to do some bookings but would prefer to do it from the Marriott side due to it carries higher status. Also want to keep all reservations in one place instead of splitting to 2 sites.
There are still issues when combining accounts the reservations disappear from online accounts!

No, because I am not sure HOW the rest of the table is corresponding to. Whoever created that table in the Wiki must have had something else s/he went by. That s/he should check the accuracy of the table and then fix the whole thing.

IIRC, the table WAS correct when it first appeared, and actually have MORE information.

The old thread that was closed by the Mod? HAS the correct information in the Wiki, so as in the body of the old thread. Why those valuable information was left out when a new thread is created is a mystery.

EDIT: Looks like the info from the Old Wiki is now being moved to the New Wiki.

Finally, anyone who has the interest to follow this thread, should have understood the process and the codes related to his or her needs by now, as it has been about a month since the initial confusion, then active DPs posted the past 2 weeks.

But your SPG total balance has dropped by 30K, right?

People who were owed the refunds on canceled SPG bookings/ properties dropped in categories, do not see activities in their accounts when refunds were finally deposited, but their account balances correctly reflect the increases. This causes a lot of confusion and mandate one to keep close tab on the account balance.

The ability to pull / transfer SPG pts on linked accounts is much needed as merging accounts still seem to be a hit or miss. Some very smoothly some have issues. The worst case was SPG pt balance disappears. Next to that is one can no longer book SPG property when logged in. Had to book as a guest then call to add the Marriott number. This would not work for award bookings!

Sadly yes it has! From earlier posts I was expecting something to show in Marriott app re cert cancellation/reissue.

Agree tricky to keep track, Award Wallet history certainly comes in handy.

Main thing will be seeing if SPG can sort booking on Thurs and fingers-crossed still rooms (there have been for a couple of months so would really suck if availability disappeared now!)

Right. SPG cannot be booked with point advance so it sucks we still are not able to book them with certs.

I wonder if the call center reps can merely transfer points without a booking to attach. Or, they can transfer points and attach to a Marriott point advance booking. Seriously prefer to keep the accounts unmerged till as long as possible when most of the issues have been fixed / no longer happening. Right now it still seems quite hit or miss.

I have an OC5 attached to a reservation for a new Cat 5 property. The attachment was done in early August. Will I have any problem at the check in? Does anyone have an experience like this?

If you attached it before the change you should be fine.

Yep would be happier if I could at least have it held. Half-considering booking a refundable standard room in case it would go back into inventory if released (if no points rooms available)...

I'd imagine they could - she clearly could see my SPG account straight away even though I haven't merged them.

1) If the booking was made before the new charts became effective on Aug 18th, you should not have any problem.

2) if the cert used is a 7 nights cert, or a 5 nights cert with correct eligibility, you should not have any problem.

3) if the cert is a 5 nights cert but obtained by rep error, i.e. the owner is not eligibility - then it depends on whether the property would do an audit. If the property GM decided to check eligibility (probably want to make sure the property gets paid by Marriott) and found out the guest is not eligible to use a 5 nights cert, an email would be sent when the free cancellation window has passed but within 48 hours of check in, to inform the guest the booking would be either transformed to BAR with 15% discount, Or the guest can choose as a No Show then receives the partial value of the 5 nights cert. Whether the hotel would still charge the 1st night at BAR due to No Show? I haven't found out the details (nor have the incentive to do so because I dont own a 5 nights cert)

Post the info pertinent to the 5 nights cert obtained without eligibility is more for Public Service purpose in case there are some who thought they were lucky to trick the reps to get 5 nights certs. It has so far proven being Fools Game as Marriott Reward has already performed audits, but now the hotels start doing so too - again, probably make sure they would get paid by Marriott when submitting the cert.

Since you don't own a 5N cert, how did you find out about this is such great details? And what is BAR?

BAR = Best Available Rate. There seems to have been traffic on other sites (esp some Chinese ones) that Happy has posted from before, perhaps from there?
