NC5 is equal to OC7 on the old chart, i.e. 35K/night property. He has an OC6 which is for 30K/night property. This category no longer exists. Surrender value on OC6 is 75K (but mapped to NC4 same as the OC5 which surrender value is 45K - that is where the 30K refund you are thinking). Surrender value on OC7 is 105K. Therefore the upgrade to NC5 (the equivalent of OC7) at 30K is on the old chart which Marriott obviously would not like to see and now issue internal memo to stop the upgrade process. For those who want the upgrade, tomorrow calling the 353 number might be your last chance. This just goes back to the goal Marriott has had all along - to fleece the customers so it can reduce their liability on the book with the least cost. I would not be surprised that after the lock down lifted, we still would not be able to use our certs on SPG properties, and probably would never be able to. Just telling customers one more lie would not make any difference. |
Is it possible to convert old cat 1-5 to new cat 5 by paying point difference (30,000?)

Read the wiki for surrender value and do the math. Even it is possible the point difference would be 60K. New Cat 5 is for 35K property, which equals to the old cat 7. |
Do the certs automatically convert?
been sitting on the sidelines for these travel packages conversions. If I have an old cat 5 package, do I need to call to convert to new cat 4 certificate or is it automatic? Mine is still listed in my account as cat1-5 which I’m assuming will not work when I call in to make a reservation. Will the cert be extended by one year when it does convert? Thanks. |

I called the 353 number and got rewards team Ireland, asked for QP91 and was told OC6 can only be converted to QP83. It seems the loophole has closed.

I added the following to the Wiki:
NC5 QP61 = OC7 610T/P610 (refund value: 45K) |

Given Marriott seems reluctant to do right by its global customer base with these packages, such Marriott customers shouldn’t be reluctant to file complaints of various sorts in the jurisdictions in which they may be domiciled or have a nexus. |

Agree on both points, in particular the bad faith we have been shown by Marriott so far. yoyo I am not sure we can even believe on any "official" announcement because none of it has turned true, literally on all fronts not just the TP. It is the Actual Treatment that matters!!! Go back upthread to find my post I copied and pasted from Flyertea, the Chinese equivalent of FT here, poster was told by Chinese CSRs that they had received instruction on SPG properties cannot be booked, no idea if it can be after Sept 18, and high probability it will never be. |
DP: Still unable to apply my converted TP cert to SPG properties as of this morning.
