How long does it take for the downgrade of OC6 to NC1-4 to occur after sending them a contact us form?

I suspect one of two things happened.
1) They cancelled your old cert and ordered you a new cert for a higher points cost. 2) They ordered you a new NC4 cert for 45k points and left your existing cert somewhere, either attached to the reservation or in your account. I received the following old 7-day category 5 certificate Cancellation Email. Description: 7 Night Travel Package Category 1-5 Hotels Certificate cancelled: XXXXXXXX Cancelled on: Friday, September 14, 2018 Reward code: 830T Still waiting for an email confirmation of the new category 4 certificate that was ordered. I have attached the reservation details below. Is this expected for bookings that are made with new certificates? It shows a cost of 45K + 24.50 taxes. I won't need to pay another 45K points at the time of the stay will I? Or is this the way they are keeping track of things now and if you cancel the certificate that's the 45K points you get back? CATEGORY 4 RESERVATION DETAILS: Summary of Charges: 1room(s) for 7night(s) Saturday, June 2, 2019 - Sunday, June 3, 2019 - 25,000points Monday, June 4, 2019 - 25,000points Tuesday, June 5, 2019 - 25,000points Wednesday, June 6, 2019 - 25,000points Thursday, June 7, 2019 - 25,000points Friday, June 8, 2019 - 25,000points Estimated government taxes and fees - 24.50 Total for stay in hotel's currency - 24.50 USD+45,000points ACTIVITY: 09/13/2018 - Rewards Partial Package - 7 Nights Category 1-4 09/13/2018, Ordered -45,000 Rewards -45,000 Points The expiration date of the new certificate must have been reset as the old certificate expired before June when the new stay was booked. |

While some people have had luck with upgrading certificates, MR tells me that they have stopped doing that this afternoon as so many people have complained that it has caused glitches in some websites and people are discovering that they have lost all of their points or upcoming trips are lost. Until they can fix the glitch, they (at least in NA) do not want to risk the chance of altering your account.

The UK agent I spoke with today cancelled my OC6, so I see +75k in my account, then they booked a NC5 which cost 105k. Seems to be a pretty straightforward transaction. Cancel one and book another. (I did use the correct codes so maybe people having issues are not understanding the codes and what to ask for) But I agree with Happy, the door is closing. I would not wait around |
Anyone know if the CSRs that handle these certificates are available over the weekend? I was just on hold for over an hour and had to hang up eventually, was hoping to call over the weekend if possible, but noticed their website saying their hours are M-F.

Glad you were able to find someone who could process your upgrade. |
Yes, the door is closing on exceptions to policy, starting with USA based agents and presumably moving on to other countries soon. If you are hoping to upgrade your cert now is the time and based on this thread calling the UK agents during their business hours appears to be a good place to start.

UK office opens on Sat with limited hours. You can find the hours on Marriott site. Asia offices close on weekend. Try to call 7am EST if you want to call North America number to avoid long wait. I am not sure why despite it has been mentioned many times from very early on, that calling international centers have much less wait time and get far more competent agents who are far more willing to accommodate customers, people would still calling the North America number. You can use Skype or some other prepaid calling services that cost you Very Little. The prepaid is as little as $5 to $10 minimum and can last you for a long time. You can make calls from landline, mobile and laptop. Off the top of my head, UK and China is at $0.025 a min IIRC, Hong Kong and Australia at $0.02, Malaysia/Singapore cost more but Australia calls are routed to Malaysia/Singapore anyway. https://www.onesuite.com/long-distance/check-rates PennyTalk International Calling Service Rates (UK at 0.01 per minute!) |

I got rejected on attempted upgrade OC6 to NC5 during Malaysia, and Hong Kong calls. Who said this can work in Asia?

The successes all came from calling UK, as recently as earlier during their business hours on Friday. Since the first success posted on this thread, those who quickly pursuit it seemed to be able to get it - until the "official" policy was handed down as posted by ms321 in post 199 and post 215. Unfortunately the door is rapidly closing. Those who waited too long to take matters in their own hands are losing out. |
