For as long as I have been buying Travel packages, Marriott's policy had been to allow category changes and to extend certificate upon request. The first notice of a change in that policy was not communicated directly to customers. Rather the change was communicated by one of the Lurkers on August 15, which only left two days to make adjustments for those who were aware of the impending change. Since that Lurker never responded to requests for conversion rates, not everyone bought the package that best matched future travel plans.
In my case, I knew where I wanted to stay but couldn't commit to firm travel dates. Not having fixed dates wouldn't have mattered if I knew what legacy package matched to the new ones. Although my choices ended up being fine, others ended up with certificates that didn't match their needs. Totally opaque from the beginning, followed by complete chaos and mess. Just how can we the customers make educated decisions? Many were making decisions blindfolded with only good faith that is completely destroyed by Marriott's underhanded treatments that are still on going. |

Just FYI... After being on hold for an hour and then getting hung up on by an agent working to adjust my travel package, I called Marriott Europe.
Got through to an agent in 7 minutes. Explained that an agent prior to the merger told me that if I attached my OC8 to a hotel, I could always move it after the merger. However, the hotel I attached it to on her recommendation changed to NC5 and we'd like to use it for a NC6 hotel (both were cat 8 prior to merger). Took her 10 minutes. She canceled my NC5, issued me an NC6 with today's date as expiration, and even credited me the difference in points that I was charged for the new certificate. No supervisor. No hassle. No massive time on hold. So to sum up. Bought OC8. Got NC6. All is good in the world. You are the first one reported getting a credit to offset the additional points to "upgrade" the cert's category so you can still use it for a hotel that went up in category on the new chart. Suggest others who want to repeat this success to try as soon as possible for obvious reasons. Did you call UK or another European number? |
Assuming we can get them to do an upgrade for us, does anyone know what the cost differential is from a tier 1-3 (new category 6) to a category 7?

We do not know the 5 nights cert but one only. However the information in the Wiki should be enough for anyone to deduce what the coides might be.

NC4 means New Category 4. Pay close attention - you can see 7 nights cert starts with 8, and the reported lone DP for the 5 nights cert starts with 5. You already have all the 7 nights translation table, why is it still hard to figure out your 5 nights cert? Due to the 5 nights only available to the eligible vacation club owners or those why tricked the agents to book despite they were not eligible, by and large, the number of 5 nights cert owner would be much much smaller than the standard 7 nights cert owners. So you do need to use your own intelligence to deduce what might be the most likely corresponding codes are, instead of relying on someone would post such data. |

Partial 5-night OC7 is P610. It appears that old certificate numbers increase by 40 per category and new certificate numbers increase by 4 per category.

Just did a conversion of OC5 830T to NC4 QP83 and attached to an existing reservation.
Initially tried to call the Asia numbers but surprisingly only one number was working and with long hold. Hang up and call the North America Plat number. 15 min wait, got a home-based agent in San Antonio, TX. She wasn't quite sure how to do it but was able to look up the new certs table and able to follow my explanation of the steps. She put me on hold for about 10 to 12 min then came back to tell me the conversion was done, added she has not done this before so it took a little bit time for her to learn how to do it. Meanwhile the cancellation / reorder emails came. She then asked me if she should proceed to attach the cert. Took another 2 min for her to attach the cert. Online it showed the reservation now has e-Cert ordered. It then took another 2 min for the confirmation email to arrive. Altogether it is quite painless process. |
The expiration date of the new package is the same of the old certificate or is one year from the date of conversion?

Update my experience
