Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.

When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).

The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
  • OC5=530T/P530 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC6=570T/P570 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC7=610T/P610 is now NC5 QP61 (refund value: 45K)
  • OC8=650T/P650 is now NC5 QP?? (Refund value: 75k)
  • OC9=690T/P690 is now NC6 QP69
7-night packages
  • NC4 QP83 = OC5 830T/P830 (refund value: 45K)
  • NC4 QP87 = OC6 870T/P870 (refund value: 75K)
  • NC5 QP91 = OC7 910T/P910 (refund value: 105K)
  • NC5 QP95 = OC8 950T/P950 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC9 990T/P990 (refund value: 165K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC Tier 1-3 L830 (refund value: 195K)
  • NC7 QL87 = OC Tier 4-5 L870 (refund value: 315K)
Other 7-night packages
  • NC5 QP88 = OC7 P880 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC5 QP92 = OC8 P920 (refund value: 165K)
legend:
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

New data point for the new year.

I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen

Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.

1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.

It's a freaking 7 NIGHT cert! Whenever I explain how the hell do you expect your customer to plan a 7 night stay so easily? You have to find all the nights available consecutively in 1 property, and that if the stay fits into your travel itinerary etc. usually leaves the agent baffled and empathize that it is not easy redeeming such certs, and it is a very valid reason to request for an extension.

I reported back in March that my converted NC TP expires Sep 19. I called in to redeem for Jan 2020. The agent also confirmed that my 2 remaining NC TPs have the eligibility to extend another year, so the redemption are all good to go until at least Aug 2020 for me if I call to redeem them.
I tend to call the Titanium/Plat line via the phone and during business hours. The agents tend to be more competent and usually gets things done fairly efficiently.
Sure, show us some recent DPs pls.... You say "always", but how can you explain the DP reported with post #2138 and others? You get no proof. Your DP is half year old.

No, it is never a valid reason to request "extension" since YOU can't find any properties for your 7-night stay. You ordered it and it is up to you to use it. Either use it or lose it. Marriott can't save you from your speculate bet.

The Ambassador won't count since it is some special consideration. Since there are various DPs with different outcomes, just do not say one more "extension" is Marriott's policy and you are so sure certain about it. This is just not true until further confirmed either by more DPs or by Marriott's rep. But the "Lurker" has purposely avoided answering this question.

No, the NC can't be upgraded. But skimthetrees would argue otherwise and advise you to HUCA 10 or more time until you get a rookie Marriott rep to make a mistake and upgrade you....

The only definitive answers to questions that have been raised about travel packages are that they can be used on peak dates (Lurker) and that there are no refunds (Terms and Conditions). With the exception of the Lurkers, none of us speak for Marriott. Most of us are simply trying to discern what Marriott's official travel package policies are. Since many of Marriott's policies are not written in a place where guests might normally look for answers, like the website, we sometimes rely on anecdotal information. Although the information we share is more reliable than hepatoscopy, we are none the less relying on imperfect information. Some agents who may be misinformed end up violating established policy, others may seek exceptions to benefit a friendly and respectful caller, and some agents may simply not care enough to help, which makes it even harder to know if the guest who did or did not get an extension did so because of company policy or an exception to it.

I can only say that:

1. All the OC TPs and the old reservations expire tonight. So they cease to exist. Marriott will be happy with it. Just move on.

2. There has been no consistent DPs and confirmation of the "extension" of the NC TPs. It shows the lack of clarity both inside Marriott and to the loyalty community.

3. Recent DPs point to tightening of Marriott on OC conversion and "extension". It gets much harder or impossible to get any upgrade or downgrade, outright cancellation and NC "extension". Some of those were possible before.

4. With all the above, everyone should take the advice from the internet with a grain of salt. Understand that all the bloggers and internet advice do not speak for Marriott. All are only their own speculations. Assess the risk and award on your own and make your own decisions.

Of course, I should have realized you don't count facts that are inconvenient for you. I never said I was certain about all outcomes. It has been proven outcomes vary and even though you acknowledge outcomes vary you try to scare people against trying to extend. What are you afraid of? People will get something you did not? Who cares? Good for them. I am basing my cert statements on data points from this thread and I do not intentionally try to scare people when I do it. With Marriott nothing is certain unfortunately even if terms are spelled out and policy is written. We would all welcome clarification from Marriott directly or through an official Lurker but do not hold your breath waiting for that to happen.

That the lurkers have avoid answering likely means there is no clear policy and outcomes may vary. There is risk involved and you have made it clear you won't take any and that is fine but we have the evidence to show that some folks have had success ignoring your advice so it can go either way. I am sure we will find out more soon as more people have NC's expiring, then we will have more to go on and people can make more informed decisions which is a good thing.

I was able to convert an old cat 1-5 to a new cat 1-4. Took 5 mins or less. Wanted a new cat 5, but they didn't allow any upgrading. Well, now I have another year to figure out where I can possibly spend a week at a cat 4 hotel, that'll be fun.

Most the recent DPs say the ability to upgrade/downgrade is dead. Good luck to find a nice place to enjoy. It can be hard for a cat 1-4 for 7 consecutive nights....

OK, so I thought I was upgrading my package from OC1-5 to a NC5. I was told it would cost 90,000 but would get a 45,000 refund. which I thought would be good considering that it looks like upgrades haven't been possible recently and thought 45,000 was a good amount to be able to upgrade to better hotels.

I then got an email confirmation of 135,000 points redeemed and the reward details are as follows:

Description: Partial package - 7 nights category 5
Reward code: QP88
Valid through: Monday, August 17th, 2020
Total Redeemed: 135,000

This is not what I understood would happen. I'm a newbie when it comes to the Travel Packages but bought one just before the changes last year... Help!

should have asked for qp91 which is also a NC5 @ 105k according to the wiki (60k difference)
