'Update on the Las Vegas Renaissance, just stayed there for two weeks and got to observe the lounge process. The lounge is on the top floor facing South, i.e. no Strip views.

The offerings in the mornings are the sort of thing you'd find at a Springhill Suites, usually there were scrambled eggs + one meat (this could be sausages or bacon or patties). There was a selection of bagels and muffins, as well as jam and cream cheese. There was also fruit, including strawberries, sometimes. No coffee machine, just three large thermos containers, like you'd find at Residence Inn or Springhill Suites.

Evenings are more interesting, with something new on offer every night, ranging from meatballs, to spring rolls, to chicken skewers. Twice, they had someone with a cooker who would prepare hors d'oeuvres, e.g. the skewers, on the spot. I didn't figure out what the system was, i.e. when and why the chef would be there sometimes and not at others. The evening offerings are followed by dessert, again, the selection changes every night, from just cookies, to amazing pastries and chocolates. Suppose it depends on what the restaurant downstairs has left over?

There are the morning opening times: Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 10:00 am.
There are the evening opening times: Sunday-Thursday 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Dessert is from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

The lounge is closed on weekends. Instead, elite members get two coupons for the buffet downstairs, but that is a catastrophe, both in terms of selection and in terms of the queue.

However, the lounge is accessible during the day on weekdays and there is a computer and wifi in the lounge."
I was there in July for a convention, and the lounge was open on the weekend for breakfast. The hotel was full, so I guess they open on the weekend depending on what is going on at the convention center.

When the hotel is full the service in the lounge at breakfast time is terrible. They run out of food, run out of silverware, etc. They actually hide some food items in the back and bring it out when certain customers ask. I observed this personally.

Stayed in Vegas a million times and going back for a conference in the Venetian. Just really don't feel like staying on the Strip for this one.

Both the Ren and LV Marriott are in policy -- really just care about smoke-free but decent access to the strip for dinner and for conference -- whatever PP benefits go on top are fine. I assume Ren is probably the better bet with the monorail option (or walking at the end of the day).

Would stay the Grand Chateau but it's showing out policy

The monorail entry is about equidistance from REN & MAR, with maybe a tad closer to the REN but not enough to really made a huge difference. I've stayed at both the REN & the MAR for many conventions over the years. Even though it doesn't have a lounge I prefer the MAR. All rooms are suites, full buffet brekkie for Plats & some of the nicest staff in the entire MAR family. The GM is great.

Cheers.

LV Marriott is the better property by a mile, and that is even though the Ren has a lounge and the Marriott does not.

Westin Las Vegas

I have an upcoming stay at the Westin Las Vegas. Anyone have any thoughts on this property? Anything better close to the Venetian or Convention Center?

Completed a stay at the Fairfield Convention Center. Basic hotel, nothing wrong with it.
One huge caveat:
The property is below the flight path of one of the airport runways, resulting in a lot of aircraft noise - at the time of my stay it appeared to be takeoff air traffic.
Windows should provide substantially better noise insulation (3x pane glass).

None of the 25k Marriott properties are in that great of a location, so don't expect too much, but the convention center ones are close to the monorail (not the best transit system at all, but it works) and it's not a terrible walk (~1mile) over to Wynn - which is IMO the northernmost end of interesting stuff walking the strip. I've stayed at the actual Marriott (unfortunately 35k/nt) there and it wasn't too bad of a walk, but not great for a lot of things either.

Of those, the Springhill Suites looks the newest, so maybe that.

It might not help you, but there is a new TownPlace being built on Dean Martin Drive - which is a pretty easy walk to the MGM/City Center complex and T-Mobile Arena. Says opening in January of 2019, but not bookable as of now.

The Las Vegas South ones are near the south (duh!) end of the strip, close to the Las Vegas sign, the airport, Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Town Square, which has shops and restaurants and a Whole Foods market -- I like to pop in there for a quick, cheap meal or groceries. You have a car, so you could be there in a couple minutes.

The Four Points and Residence Inn are near Flamingo and Paradise - not unwalkable to Bellagio and the other big casinos on the strip. Location-wise for the group of hotels you're considering, I prefer these, especially because it's near Lotus of Siam, which is some of the best Northern Thai in this country.

As goldenbear notes above, the convention center ones are north, at the top of the heart of the strip, which is the modern touristy Las Vegas you've come to see, but a little closer to downtown and Freemont St., the former heart of Las Vegas (not really close enough to walk, however).

Since you have a car, you can visit these outlying areas easily as well as drive out to Red Rock Canyon (half an hour) if you get tired of neon and bridesmaids. But note that while valet parking used to be free in LV, all the strip hotels now charge for parking, so if you plan to pop in and out of casinos, take an Uber to your first stop and then walk around. Lyft and Uber are everywhere, but if it's a super busy weekend, it can be a long wait. On a non-holiday off peak weekend, rideshare is easy and cheap.

My current fave hotel in LV is the Cosmopolitan, but it's a 50K award. Have a great time!

SpringHill Suites Convention Center Las Vegas.

First time staying at springhill suites and the bed sheet n pillow case was not pressed, looked crumpled. Is that the norm at springhill suites?

LOL, it's a Springhill, not a Ritz-Carleton. When they're crumpled at least you know they have been washed and dried since the last use.

Following up -- ended up staying at the LV Marriott.

It was pretty solid and in line with what others have reported in the thread. Location was easy enough to get to/from the Strip and was a pretty easy walk down to the big Walgreens to stock up on a couple of things for my fridge.

Only caveat is calling the rooms a suite is generous by Las Vegas standards IMO. When I think Las Vegas suite I think ridiculously oversized suite like you get on the Strip. This was closer to a typical city Marriott junior suite though still was quite nice and had a substantial amount of space.

Would stay at the LV Marriott again but honestly I wish the Residence Inn Hughes Center was a Courtyard. Hughes Center is such a solid off-strip area with a couple of restaurants (including Chipotle) but the fact that RI only earns 5 points per dollar instead of 10 makes RIs unattractive to me in most circumstances.
