Announcement from the Marriott website:
Marriott International Signs Agreement With Suzhou Jingyuan Hotel Management Co., Ltd., to Debut AC Hotels by Marriott Brand in Greater China
AC Hotel by Marriott Suzhou is expected to open in December 2022
(https://news.marriott.com/news/2022/...-greater-china)

Funnily, AC Hotel Ganzhou Quannan has been in the system for months at least, but it's not bookable, so if Suzhou really opens in December it might be the first.

Sheraton Phoenix Airport Hotel Tempe - gone

So...I've just discovered in my junk email a notification sent Friday evening September 12 this hotel (the former Sheraton PHX Airport/Tempe mentioned above) is a Wyndham effective September 14--and if I wanted to cancel or rebook I had to contact Marriott by 13 September (!).

Seriously, Marriott!?

They say Wyndham will honor the reservation, and the hotel cheerfully reconfirmed with new reservation #s, but still... This would be much less annoying if not traveling with my 70+ year old in-laws.

Has anyone here had a similar experience recently? Did all work out?

TIA!

I haven't had that happen to me. If I am interpreting your message correctly, the now Wyndham property is honoring your points reservation. Since the property has acknowledged and confirmed the stay under the new Wyndham flag, you should be fine. One thing that is odd, when is the date of the stay and what was the cancellation terms in the original reservation? You should be able to at least cancel up through the cancellation date in your original reservation. Finally, you should be happy that they are accommodating you. Many other posters have had situations where they were given very little notice, sometimes 24 hours or less, that there stay was cancelled and were not given assistance with rebooking at the same point cost for an equivalent property. Hope it works out for you...

Turns out they're not honoring the original points redemption. Called to follow up with the hotel since the reservations still haven't shown up in my Wyndham Rewards account and they said the reservations were transferred over as $$ reservations. So now I have a reservation that was paid for with points, converted to a paid stay, and no points refunded...yet--trying to get the actual confirmation in hand showing it is a paid stay so I can get Marriott to at least refund the points.

I am not optimistic.

Very messy. What was the cancellation term on your original points reservation? If you haven't already, perhaps reach out to FT Marriott Lurkers for assistance to get your points returned. Will Wyndham let you cancel the $$ reservation, assuming that is what you want to do? Finally, if you haven't already, make alternate arrangements on your own now before it gets even more expensive to do so as your stay nears. E.g. do that in parallel with working on a resolution with Marriott and Wyndham.

New hotels in Cambodia

I have just stayed at the Courtyard Phnom Penh and heard news from employees:

- The Courtyard Siem Riep Resort will reopen sometime soon.
- There will be a new Fairfield in PP and really, it has been recently added to MARSHA Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh
- A new Autograph Collection called The Khom Hotel or maybe just Khom is being built. This one I had run into by accident, too. It is next to the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monument, a great location for tourists.
- Le Meridien coming to Sihanoukville
