As per this annual report from the company owning the overall Powai Lake development, the planned W Mumbai - Powai Lake, announced in 2019 and due to open in 2023, has been cancelled in favor of a site redevelopment to a commercial building. With the stagnant status of the endlessly stalled Namaste Tower project in Worli, announced in 2011 and due to house W Mumbai, it seems a W in the city is a long way off.

New Marriott hotel in Sunny Beach (the largest Bulgarian resort on the Black Sea) :
"The excellent 4 star Four Points by Sheraton Sunny Beach hotel (formerly known as the Globus Hotel) is an established landmark in this popular resort. This recently renovated property is just steps away from the golden sand of Sunny Beach and right in the center, splitting the resort in two equal parts to the north and to the south."
It should open in the summer of this year.

One of the more poetic names I've ever seen for a hotel...

Marriott coming to Opatija, Croatia. I have always wanted to visit Trieste which is only an hour drive from Opatija. Would not be a bad idea to visit both places. Even better now it's borderless.

That is (possibly) great news -- the current Sheraton Riverwalk is a hard NO from my office staff. HVAC hasn't worked properly in at least 2 years, housekeeping is hit-or-miss, usually miss. Lots of deferred maintenance. Restaurant staff have always been good.

At the same time, I've seen this before. If they choose to keep it unflagged, you already know why -- the property is to run-down to meet brand standards. Saw this with the Rochester NY Radisson which was terrible, went unflagged and totally left to rot before they eventually shut it down.

Two of the three Costa Smeralda Luxury Collection properties are leaving soon:

The LVMH brand Belmond will manage the Hotel Romazzino, which will open for the 2024 season as the Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel, Costa Smeralda.

The Hotel Pitrizza will be managed by the LVMH brand Cheval Blanc. The hotel will continue to operate under its current name until 2026, when it will be rebranded as Cheval Blanc Pitrizza, Costa Smeralda, following the completion of the renovation works.

This will leave just the Hotel Cala di Volpe with Marriott

Again, Marriott keeps losing many great properties to competitors. Most of them are legacy starwood's brands.

Seems like a serious loss to me.

sadly I think Belmont is a better fit for super luxury properties. I still miss the loss of Rayavadee some years back.

It seems like Waldhaus Flims is in for another change in ownership and will leave Marriott any day now.

This is odd. The Westin was a SPG legacy property and has been one of the cheapest in terms of rates on Phuket for as long as I can remember. This rebrand (if true) would be quite a big jump and I imagine some extensive renovation would have to be done.

Here is the press release from AWC in case of doubts: https://www.assetworldcorp-th.com/en...-on-the-island

Funny, it seems to me there are now 4 Ritz-Carltons to open in Thailand in the next few years.
