I'm very surprised that the contracts allow this. I wonder whether one of them will be reflagging/deflagging.

It’s Dubai they seem to find room for more hotels every week.

EXPO 2020 was delayed a year. Might as well build more accommodations in the interim. :)

Three new hotels coming to Amsterdam:
  • Le Méridien Amsterdam Harbour City
  • Courtyard by Marriott Amsterdam Harbour City
  • Element Amsterdam Harbour City
The hotels are being built across two towers and will share a podium containing lobbies, restaurants and back-of-house areas. 600 rooms are planned in total, with 200 planned for the Element in a standalone 40 m tower with the Courtyard and Le Méridien sharing the taller 70 m building. The taller building will have a sky bar and Le Méridien club lounge on the rooftop.

Construction was planned to start in February 2020 [not sure if it did given the circumstances], but Marriott lists the hotels as opening in June 2023. Glad to see Le Méridien return to Amsterdam, even if this location is a tad out of the way.

Tampa does not need an EDITION... They are also opening a JW Marriott there... I just do not see it being successful. Hope I am proven wrong.

Ritz-Carlton Reserve enters Japan with luxury ski-in/ski-out resort

The snowy slopes of Japan’s northern Hokkaido island are now home to Higashiyama Niseko Village, the country’s first Ritz-Carlton Reserve hotel.

Only the fifth property – and the first in Japan – to join the Ritz-Carlton Reserve portfolio, the exclusive luxury brand from Marriott International, Higashiyama Niseko Village has certainly set the bar high in Hokkaido.

Intuitive heartfelt service

Owned by Malaysian hospitality outfit YTL Hotels, the ski-in/ski-out property flies the luxury flag for the Reserve brand’s ethos of excellent, personal service. “YTL Hotels’ illustrious portfolio continues to expand in Japan and globally, and it is a pleasure to work with Marriott International on this exceptional property,” said Dato’ Mark Yeoh, executive director of YTL Hotels.

“Marriott International’s luxury brand footprint continues to expand in Japan, and we are very excited to be opening the very first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the country, the latest property in our longstanding partnership with YTL Hotels,” added Rajeev Menon, president, Asia Pacific (excluding China), Marriott International.

Celebrating nature

Set at the foot of Mount Niseko Annupuri in the heart of Niseko Village, the 50-room hotel takes its cues from ‘Kachou Fuugetsu’, a Japanese proverb that translates as ‘flower, bird, wind, moon’. In short, this means a philosophy that ‘encourages reverence for the transient beauty of nature and wellbeing through self-discoveries’.

As such, the aesthetics of the hotel unfold over a design inspired by the light of the seasons and its surroundings, using natural materials like polished marble, fragrant cedar wood and flame-brushed granite.

This same philosophy continues into the hotel’s three dining spots, which all celebrate local, seasonal produce, harvested at its peak. At Yukibana, fresh seafood, meats and vegetables are served against views of the beautiful Hokkaido landscape; the itamae – or chef – at Sushi Nagi serves up bold, yet delicate flavours omakase-style; and for something a bit more casual, Ume Lounge delivers izakaya-style dishes alongside customised cocktails, single malts and local brews.

ARTIC signs six-property deal in Doha with Marriott International

The hotel openings are anticipated to mark the introduction of five new brands in the country: Autograph Collection, Delta Hotels by Marriott, Element by Westin, Le Meridien and Marriott Executive Apartments, according to a press statement.
The six properties will include five new-build hotels - Le Méridien City Center Doha, Delta Hotels City Center Doha, Element City Center Doha, Element Doha West Bay and Al Samriya, Autograph Collection - in addition to a conversion property that will be rebranded to become Marriott Executive Apartments City Center, Doha.

ARTIC signs six-property deal in Doha with Marriott International (gulf-times.com)

I was just about to share this. The properties, all opening this year, are:
  • Le Méridien City Center Doha - 256 rooms, 97 serviced apartments
  • Delta Hotels City Center Doha - 236 rooms, 84 serviced apartments
  • Element City Center Doha - 283 rooms
  • Element Doha West Bay - 180 apartments
  • Al Samriya, Autograph Collection - 62 rooms, 26 villas
  • Marriott Executive Apartments City Center Doha
They've gone a bit heavy with the City Center branding [the majority of Marriott's Doha properties will carry that name], but five new brands will enter the local market. The release mentions that the Executive Apartments property will be a conversion, so I believe that - barring any other acquisition ARTIC may pick up - the new Curio-branded Aleph Residences will switch over to Marriott. The Delta is also going into what was supposed to open as the Hyatt Centric West Bay Doha.

I've been sleeping on openings lately, but just saw the St. Regis Bermuda is accepting reservations for this summer now. No specific timing updates on Cabo and I'm still skeptical Riviera Maya ever happens. On a side note, looks like RC Turks & Caicos and RC Bermuda are also getting closer to accepting reservations .

Talked to the GM today at the delayed AC on Maui. Looks like May for opening.
