probably not because SS VGC is mostly empty. So they think SS MCGC is working like the VGC that's why they got them. Wonder why they didn't get the vanilla. It works the same like SSVGC.

i did get the Vanilla, just got MC instead of Visa, and it didn't load the same

Just stick with the Vanilla and SSVGC if you able to find it. MC technically work if you know what you doing. Just keep it simple and don't let the cashiers have reason to ask. It usually take me like 1 minute or less to load Discover when using the Vanilla or SSVGC.

Datapoints:
Staples $200 VGCs - Pathward loads at 98 per swipe @ WM
Staples $200 VGCs - MB loads at 49 per swipe @ WM

Question/Comments:
1. What does SS stand for in SSVGC?
2. What is strange about my data points above is multiple cards had "read errors" on them. I had to swap/try several times until one finally took. This was with different CSRs at registers at at the MC.

Were you able to do multiple swipes on each VGC?

My DP

Hi All - First post, pls be gentle ;-)

DP - bunch of yellow $200 MB BHN VGCs from Staples sale (extended, still going on today). all bin 4358 80, most expire 12/30, some expire 11/31
Tried loading my Discover today for first time.
  • First attempt, one swipe $200. CSR seemed knowledgable and confident. No issues... $200 drained to Discover lickedy split, no problem.
  • Second attempt, same day (figured I'm under the 24 hour limit if I'm under $1k) different store. Got 'Debit not available' code 56. Tried to swipe it twice, no love. Told the CSR, "sorry, let's just cancel the transaction". Used the VGC to purchase something later. VGC is fine for purchase.
  • Third attempt, third WM, third VGC 'Debit not available' code 56
So, this has me really wondering.
  • How did the first transaction go through so easily when everyone here reports so many issues with the MB BHN VGCs?
  • Why the first time was smooth and all others failed?
    • Was the first Walmart special?
    • Was the first CSR special?
    • Was the first VGC different somehow (nothing that I can tell is different about it)?
    • Did I cause a fraud alert on my Discover by trying to load twice in one day? (seems less likely considering other DPs here, but I'll try to buy a stick of gum with it tomorrow and report back).
Anywho, that's my DP. I'll keep y'all posted (btw, I'm not southern, but I think y'all southerners are on to something... having a special word like " y'all " to use at times like these)

For the first load, did you use a cashier or the service desk? If you used a cashier, then loading $200 Staples cards is possible. However, I have no explanation why your load went through at the CS desk.
Debit not available means that BHN has blocked your card from being used in a debit transaction.
Your purchase of an item was done using the card as credit, which will work to buy an item, just not a MO or make a cash deposit to Discover :(
Try one of your failed cards again tomorrow for Discover and see if it loads. I suspect that it should if you wait a day. Let us know ;)
It is all BHN from the DPs we are getting and there are no DPs on fraud alerts by this activity.

Also, Sorry if I'm using the wrong wording, but when I say fraud alert, I'm referring to DPs earlier in thread of folk needing to call Discover due to some lock on that end

Were your 2nd and 3rd attempts for $200?
I have been unable to load more than $49 with Yellow MBs.
I have been ABLE to load $98 with Yellow Pathwards.
FWIW, I also noted the two above are different shades of yellow/blue-lettering
