Signing up to buy $1000 visa/mc gift cards
You can buy the $1000 cards on Simon's volume site. Their regular site only sells $500 cards.
If you're new, or haven't bought anything in a year, you need to register at https://www.simon.com/volume/register-consumer
As part of the registration process, you will have to go to a brick and mortar mall and buy at least $3000 in cards in person, as well as filling out some paperwork while there. After that, you can do everything online.

As of Nov 2020, Simon Mall Gift cards will only work for $99/swipe for money services at Walmart and many grocery chains.

$1000 gift cards are available indefinitely.

You could see if you could buy a GC with a VGC by simply trying to buy any of the dozens of GCs that are available at SM with your VGC. For example, try and buy a $100 SMGC or other GC with your VGC. If you can, then see if you can buy a SMGC that is >$200 with more than one $200 VGC (i.e needs more than one swipe to pay for it)..I suspect that the answer will be no to both attempts. However.....

I would certainly be interested in the results of your experiment. Let us know how you fared

System-wide (nation-wide) outage?

Stopped by my local SM (Northern VA) and was told there's a system-wide outage and they haven't been able to sell GCs since yesterday (which was 24 Feb). Cashier gave me the phone number to call the desk before wasting my next trip out there. Anyone else experience this?

Ironically, I am staying at the Westin Crystal City for the Weekend. On my way back from visiting DC's attractions, decided to go buy a couple VGC at the Mall. Not a problem at all. They will go to my stack and be cashed out at my 4 Wallys in the middle of nowhere mid west.
Interesting Simon Mall in the area, BTW and my first time buying VGC in Virginia.

you're lucky you have places to cash them out. Here all the grocery stores are all gung-ho and demand to see the card. Wonder if it would be worth it to drive somewhere like a neighboring state and just unload $100k worth of cards🤔

Just how easy they are to get but how complicated to drain in the area. Busy mall on a saturday night and nothing but in, buy VGCs, buy Popeyes Chicken Sandwich and SB Coffee, eat and out ...

Now back to my middle of nowhere mid west Wallys and boom, they are transformed into MO without a blink of an eye from the Wally CSRs !!!

What location are you in where they demand to see the card? I've had pretty good luck with Publix supermarkets in Florida. They never ask to see the card.
