This is the master thread for all VGC and MCGC sold at Staples.
The previous discussion can be found here.

The VGCs sold at Staples are issued by Metabank and serviced by Blackhawk Network.
The activation code for online purchase comes with the card. Cards purchased at store are activated at check-out.
To activate cards over the phone (without activation codes), call (877) 426-2551 to talk to a rep.
To activate cards over the web, www.giftcardkey.com.
The default PIN number is the last four digits of the card number but can be changed online.

As of 5/12/2014, all known portals are dead.

Earn 5x points with Chase Ink, or Simply Cash for 5% cash back
Buy Visa gift cards (Metabank) at Staples ($200 for $7.95) or the website ($300 for $8.95).

2k Limit per transaction / 10k per day for online. In-store is usually 2k but YMMV
Often times, there are promotions with no or reduced activation fees

That's why my Staples has new cashier weekly if not monthly

Does anyone know if Staples assistant managers are classified as exempt employees, i.e., salaried and not entitled to overtime? I know that there's a threshold, around $450/week, such that if your salary is below that level you can't be classified as exempt. I think the threshold is increasing to around $680/week next year.

Not being salty - truly asking why would this matter?

Federal labor rules allow companies to treat salaried workers earning over a certain amount as exempt from overtime comp (1.5x hourly rate). So company pays store manager a salary of say $30k per year, but manager winds up working, say, 12-14 hrs a day, very often filling-in for non-exempt hourly workers that don't show up. Pretty tough life for not a lot of money.

Nothing to do with MS.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth the hassle. Have the issues with these been resolved yet?

Excellent point !! I have yet to see a satisfactory resolution to the problems that have been reported upstream
Given the recent DPs on the disposition of these cards, I would be very hesitant on using them solely for MSing purposes.

When I start seeing DPs that indicate that they are functioning in a normal fashion, I will again use them in my standard way.

It was small potatoes, but I was able to use one $200 MC GC at WM yesterday to load to my serve.

Thanks for the DP. For now, I will stick with stick with method that works for me: buying $795 MO with 4 swipes at $199 each.

Thinking about buying 7 to pay my rent for next month (1300). Since Walmart usually limits to 4 swipes, do I just do 800, then 500? Or should I do 800, then go to a different Walmart for 500?

You need to read this thread very, very carefully, especially the last 3 weeks or so.

Things are not as straightforward as it appears you think it is.

FWIW was able to get a $195 MO just fine earlier this evening. Unfortunately my local Staples seems to be enforcing the 1 per customer per day rule, very first thing the clerk said to me when I walked up with 2.. so probably won't be able to hit this too hard / at all

My local Staples also carries $200 cards, but I haven't picked up any due to the MC issues being reported.
