Uh... I never intended to have a cash advanced fee. I don't think I fully clarified, but 5 days prior, it was categorized in a different category and it wasn't charged a cash advanced fee. Just a nasty shock to me. And its actually a 5% cash advanced fee on no points so I'm just hemorrhaging money haha... sigh.

Just wanted to give a heads up to those that might use an Arrival + ***On a Sunrise Giftcard*** (Sorry off-topic. Please delete).

I understand you didn't expect the cash advance fee. The part that has my head scratching is why you'd pay $3.95 to Simon to purchase an approximately $100 gift card per your previous post. Putting aside the cash advance fee why would you pay effectively 3.95% +/- to gain 2.x% back on your Arrival?

Oh I had multiple split transaction (total ~5k). 3.95 per 500 card. My previous purchases never had any such cash advance fee. Just a slight gain, but I just made it a hobby to fill the serve cards.

***Bleh disregard my previous messages, I was referring to Sunrise not Simon.

Sorry about that. Let me edit them

I just got charged cash advance fee of $100.79. Used Discover card.
I used chase, citi, amex last week, had no problems. It was coded as QUASI CASH - NONFINANCIAL INSTITUTION . I have never used Discover before for simon mall gift card. It was coded as souvenir and novelity in my citi cards.

What's a "sunrise vgc"? I've purchase Simon Mall VGC's before on my Arrival with no problems. The last time was March 31st.

GCs issued by Sunrise bank. They sell them at WM and I guess some malls.

I just got a Citi Double Cash card. I was going to use it at the Simon Mall to buy GCs, but with these reports of other cards charging CA fees, I'm wondering if it's safe.

How do they even know/which methods do they frown upon?

If you put your CA limit at zero (I set mine on activation), you don't have to worry about CA fees. the worse that can happen is your card will get denied since you have no available CA.

Walmart around here are asking for an ID & Name on GC to load Simon Mall Visa gift cards. I've been to 3 different Walmarts in the area & none would load to BB without my name on the GC along with ID. Can someone please tell me what's going on?

As with most thing around here it is YMMV. Some places don't care others treat you as terrorist.
