Bill Pay cannot be done at a regular register.
It must be done at Customer Service/Returns.
Or at the Money Center in stores that have it.
BUSINESS DAY transaction completion time is 18:59:59 EST
--------------------------------------------------------------
WM offers two BP services: CheckFreePAY and MoneyGram. The cashier can initiate CheckFreePAY by selecting Money Services followed by Bill Pay on the register for a fee of $1-1.88. Moneygram is $4.99.
Once your CFP account is set up, you can add cc. When you want to BP give them your phone# to look up your account under Money Services. They often get confused and think you want MG, but just say it is under Money Services.
ONLY 4 successful debit card swipes can pay for a transaction.
ONLY 5 payments per 16 digit account number per rolling 30 days.
--------------------------------------------
:-:VISA and MC
If your particular card isn't on the list below, try "VISA" or "MASTERCARD."
"VISA" and "MASTERCARD" payee can no longer be found by search at some stores. If the employee can no longer find "VISA" or "MASTERCARD" by searching in CheckFreePAY, then you cannot pay either, end of story.
Following do not work:

No. am not curious to find out. Beside, what should I say to CFP, like, I want to pay an FIA Amex thru BankofAmerica Consumer Loan Services and the system rejects it, what say you?
There is nothing printed out - the cashier simply showed me the screen on what the message said. That was after we successfully paid an A+ using MC. So I said OK, let's pay a Visa then. Club Carlson went without hiccup.

My experience today is as follows. I walk up to the desk and hand the cashier my bills. I confirm that they process Visa payments. He said, "Oh yes, we sure do." He looks through the list, looks again and then said, "Visa is not on the list. I don't know what's going on." I thank him and walk away.

East coast - wiki
I have found from my personal experience that the comment for East Coast may be slightly misleading (then again, can't compare with other areas of the country, because I haven't tried).
In my own experience, this seems to be very store specific (or has the appearance). In a specific example, I went to a couple of stores in the area and none of them worked; then went to another one (just 2-3 miles from last one) and it worked great).
Haven't really seen any pattern in terms of stores selected - no correlation with presence of money centres, new/old POS software, new/old POS terminal hardware. Would love to hear other folks data points to compare notes..

I've been told cash-only a couple of times, but the only split-tender I have ever had work is to pay the fee first in cash in order to full drain the GC-- i.e. $1.40 in cash for the BP fee and then swipe to pay $500 off the GC. Paying a total, say $1000K-- across two GCS has never worked (and this is with knowledgeable cashiers making the effort).
