That should be fine, and shouldn't raise any red flags. But again, it really depends on your store policies. Some CVS stores say it's policy not to take CC at all, some say you can have a max of $500/day, etc.
But, if your store lets you buy $1k without an issue, it would be extremely unlikely for your CC company to hassle you about it. We have 4 CVS around our area , no issues 1K or using CC Thanks again ATWBY2020 |

I've been shut out of two CVS past 3 days, went in two days ago and went to buy 5k, swiped my ID, got to the end, the it says it can't sell them to me, manager wouldn't tell me why, just said system said no. Happened again today different CVS, but the lady showed me the screen, I should have taken a picture, but it first said try again in a few minutes, then the next screen said product can not be sold remove from bagging area ...
I did buy 5k a day for 4 days, is it possible they are locking me out completely using my DL? I'd hate to be able to only buy one a day, it wouldn't be worth it. This is in SW Florida The magnetic strip on my license is all screwed up (too many big scratches, etc), so I figured the error might be due to the strip not working as expected. I went to the DMV yesterday and applied for a duplicate license - keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that the new license will solve my issue. I really do hope CVS hasn't blacklisted me forever... |

I have been facing a similar issue for a while now.. I have even posted about it on this thread earlier. I wasn't even super aggressive. After a few attempts where the POS refused to let the purchase go through. Error was something along the lines of "system cannot communicate, etc. Please remove the items and do not complete the sale" <- I am paraphrasing here. After that I was able to purchase >$1K once, and ever since, I have had zero success, so I keep buying <$1K now.

I am not sure which state you are in. But for CA, there is also a barcode thing on the back of the DL. My CVS don't always swipe my DL. They use their scanner and scan the barcode. I think it's the same thing. So it doesn't matter of our DL magnetic strip is defective.

How are you guys purchasing 5k at a time? I am trying to meet min spend on a Citi AA card. Tried buying just 1k worth of VRs on the Citi card, and the transaction got declined (fraud alert). Do you guys call the bank before purchase and get pre-authorization for a charge as large as 5k? Thanks for any help.

It's unlikely that $20K in VRs over 4 days caused the block. It is more likely that there is another reason.
The first is true. CVS can track by the name off the CC and also by CC numbers. The second is probably not true. There are some who buy $5k/day almost every day, and the only report of a shutdown I've seen is this one. Won't be until next week though in a different state, NY vs getting shut down in FL. |

Buffball what happened to you could be a glitch and not a blacklist, as same thing happened to me a couple of days ago at one store. I tried again the next day at another store with same DL and bought 5k just fine. Keep us posted though.

Was it your first purchase on the card? I put 5k of VR on the same card and was fine, but that was after another 20/30k in charges overall.

Wasn't my first purchase, but I only had a few transactions totaling less than $500 up until that point.

My first purchase of VR yielded a fraud alert on both cards I tried. No problem since.

I just started a couple of months ago and for three months now I am able to get 5k in one day, once a month. I split it up between two cards . Am Ex. and CSP No problem!
