Indeed before long he is telling me not just about the "happy" atmosphere he discerns at Aman Tokyo.
I must have missed Tokyo Disney then.

I'd vote for that!

Fred Varnier from Amanpuri is gone. Paul Linder - formerly of COMO Shambhala Estate and Chiva Som - will be taking over starting November.

Aman has also started doing more of a push for its villas. They're now available via luxury villa rental sites such as LuxuryRetreats.com (and a few others)

Longtime GM of the Amanpuri Fred Varnier has left the hotel group. Varnier spent 21 years at the Aman and has been a fixture at the iconic island getaway.

A new senior manager has been named for the hotel with Paul Linder coming onboard at the beginning of November. He was last with the Comp group and prior to that with Thailand's famed Chiva-Som.

Where is Fred headed? Has anyone been to Puri lately, how is it under Harish? Thought about doing Puri for a couple nights in November.

Yep: http://www.luxuryretreats.com/destin...m-ocean-116016

Plenty more here - although 'searching' for Aman can be difficult (many things labelled Aman).

Amanzoe
Amanyara
Amandari
Amanusa
Amangiri
Amangani

all have villas on here, along with Amanpuri.

Any other residence villa properties I'm missing? Amanpulo doesn't seem to be up there yet.

There are other similar sites with Aman villas and rates too.

There was nothing wrong with Fred, per se, but he wasn't my favorite GM... Always so concerned with a handful of VIPs and borderline ignoring the rest of the guests. Sandra always did it better (and she was rewarded with Kila).
