Fascinating. That's a big loss for Hyatt. I've stayed there and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was in an outsize room with a step down sitting area and a sofa racing a large picture window. The Alps was beyond. Many hotels fail to take advantage of view with furniture placement. This one did so superbly.

The hotel website confirms it is leaving the chain on July 31 2017.

I would be even more excited if Mandarin's hotels and resorts wouldn't all crumble after their first honeymoon year.

Expandation may be thrilling, but the hotel doesn´t on the first view.

Exactly. New York is another one that has become better regaded here ove the years, some consider it best in town.

Munich and Barcelona are also widely considered best in town.

i dont think MO NY reputation has changed much; has hard product, pool, spa, location, view .
almost no NY hotels have been consistently good here, many cities/places are similarly tough

hyatt recently acquired miraval, travaasa austin, cranwell
unfortunately expanding miraval, probably not top luxury

accor acquired onefinestay (airbnb acquired luxury retreats)

This is exactly the reason why I couldn't care less about Aman NY. Just another disappointment in their North American portfolio to come. If brand obsession is any motivation, could just as well stay at Baccarat.

FS Downtown is not really discussed here, but they seem to get it right for NY standards.

Unions...

FS downtown has multiple very good reports here

Might pay a visit once they are in operation to see.
The spa itself was a nightmare. Highest spa rates in the city, questionable spa pedigree and spa products and very green therapists. The hardware for a) waiting area b) relaxation areas are reminiscent of 80s Hyundai pleather and hard plastics with no service recovery in sight. Save your time and money from Evian Spa at Signiel Seoul.
