I'm thinking of booking a Lufthansa flight to Rome. The flight ARN-FRA-FCO has a 45 minute connection time in Frankfurt. Is it possible to make such a short connection in Frankfurt, and also how long is the walking distance between the gates? Wouldn't be too happy if I had to drag myself all the way to B from A or v.v. Also let's say that the inbound flight is one minute delayed, could I technically chose not to make it to the gate in time in order to be re-booked to the next departure the following day? The flight arrives in Rome at 23.30 so I'll have to spend the night at the airport... Not looking forward to it.

Should be easy peasy - Schengen-to-Schengen connection, so no passport control or security, and a very high chance of A gates for both arrival and departure. I'd book it without hesitation.

IAD-FRA-TSE transit
Hi all,
I arrive on UA metal and have 90 minutes in FRA before departing on LH metal to TSE. Is this a tight connection? Will I pass any SEN lounges? I can be a fast walker 😄
Thanks for any wisdom!

Welcome to FT, RichieIRL!
There is no such thing as the usual arrival gate for most flights in FRA. Yesterday it was B22, today it was C02 and tomorrow it is expected to be bus arrival in B. In other words it could be anywhere (mostly B or B bus gates) and you cannot predict.
50 mins is quite a tight connection in FRA. I did a 55 mins' connection from a lower C gate (non-Schengen) to an A gate a couple of months ago and managed it despite the incoming flight arriving 12 mins late but I wouldn't like to repeat it often. My departure gate was A13 which is about the nearest gate to security/passport control which helped.
You will have to clear securitiy not because Ireland is non-Schengen but because FRA can't/won't deal with arrivals from non-Schengen EU countries well. You will have to follow the signs and move as quickly as you can. Gates A58-69 are quite a lot further from the central area than A13 and are bus gates. Provided you are on one ticket they will put you on the next available flight to ATH should you miss your connection.
Good luck!

I have a challenge next week with a 60 min connection. Arrive on UA (so probably bus gate to B) and then a non-Schengen flight on LH from B (probably).
Arrival is at noon time so hopefully security will be swift. I guess there is no short cut to the security? Up the escalator and then down again?
In the unlikely event that we get a Z gate then I will try to enter and exit Schengen to avoid security.

transferring in Frankfurt
Hopefully (!) we are flying in September DTW--FRA--BUD. Just wondering how tough it will be to do the transfer: I am thinking we have to go through Customs, do we have to pick up the luggage and if so, how do we then give back the luggage? Do we have to go through security again? We have 2 hrs and I here the gates can be very far apart. Thanks.

Hey, you're flying to Europe - you do not have to pickup your luggage etc.
just immigration and security and there you go.
(Customs will be in BUD).
Transfer time from/to the gate depends on your arrival gate. Can be btw 5 to 30 mins.
Frankfurt is pretty convenient. Shouldn't be a big hassle.

As Andie007 has already pointed out your luggage can be checked through to BUD and there's no need to collect and check it again in FRA. Depending on your arrival gate there is normally no need to re-clear security in FRA. You go through passport control in FRA but the FRA-BUD flight will be like a domestic flight in the US.

transfer at EDDF with hand luggage without 1 ticket
Hi :-)
I'm desperately looking for advice how to handle transfer at EDDF without 1 ticket.
I'll have only 40 min
Departure by Austrian Airlines from LOWW to EDDF, then 40min to catch flight by SAS to EPGD via EKCH.
Is it possible to go/run through the gate via 'Fast lane' ?
Any suggestions, please.
In will be Friday around 19:30-20:30....
Thanks!

Is 50 minutes enough in FRA for a connection from MUC-FRA-DUB ?
This is about the only option i got to fly to DUB from CLJ in November and it's on one airline(LH) without having to change. My entire flight is CLJ-MUC-FRA-DUB and the connection time in MUC is about an hour and a half which is plenty of time i think since i've connected with less time to go to SFO. But the FRA-DUB leg is worring me a bit.

Beginners' guide to connecting at FRA [FRA connection thread]
It is tight but if your MUC-FRA is on time it should be ok.
Your flight from MUC will normaly arrive in T1A and your flight to Dublin will normaly depart from T1B.

You are probably thinking of LH1673-LH097-LH978. Since lufthansa.com sells this ticket it is a legal connection but it does not guarantee you will make the connection in FRA. You should be ok if you are prepared to be put on the next flight LH980 arriving in DUB at 17:10 in case of misconnect. Or you can try and book LH1673-LH095-LH978 which gives you 1hr45 in MUC and 1h20 in FRA to improve your chance of connection in FRA.

Thanks PetzLux for the quick reply. I am planning to hit the ground running and maybe not check a bag also. I've also seen there are some later flights out of FRA to DUB if there are any delays.
