Online checkin, seating assignment choice?

We were not especially worried about where we sit as our upcoming LH flights are only just over an hour in duration, however our connection time at our first stopover is rather tight so it might be nice to be as far forward (nearer the aircraft exit) as possible.

When I do online checkin the day before our flights, will we be given the opportunity to select from any remaining unassigned seats at that time and create our boarding passes, or will we simply be assigned four seats randomly (either then or at the airport)?

Can we checkin for both flights on our LH booking at 23 hours before the first flight by the way, or would we need to wait until 23 hours before the SECOND flight?

You should be able to pick a seat when you check in online and you can check in for both your flights at the same time. Note that online check-in usually starts earlier than the advertised 23 hours before departure. I would try and check in first thing in the morning the day before the flights but many people on shorthaul flights ex-UK don't bother to check in early so you will be fine.

Hi,
Last week (18th May) I wrote to Miles&More asking about my miles - miles for my recent flight were credited to my Fathers account (I used his upgrade vouchers as they were about to expire, I will use my vouchers for him in next few months).
I asked them to correct miles statement in both accounts, however, they still did not reply to me.
Does it usually takes that long to get response from them?
Thanks for any answers!

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on the time that checkin opens for the flights on the few days before we go so I know roughly when to try for ours. You have been very helpful, thank you.

I don't think you can find out when online check in opens unless you are booked on the flight.

There's a kind of competition among some frequent flyer friends to find who manages to check in very early, like more than 40 hours before departure. I've found that on shorthaul flight ex-UK I can't check in online soon after midnight on the day before departure and get an error message. For your flight you could try after midnight the day before but if it doesn't work I'd try first thing in the morning.

The website flight info search page shows a link for 'Flight Details', and also 'Online Checkin' seems to appear about 24 hours before each flight time. I'm waiting to see when tomorrow's 13:30 BHX>FRA flight starts to show its Online Checkin link for example. So far it just shows Flight Details.

I'll try and see what we can get anyway, but as of now very few seats seem to be reserved (it's only just over an hour's flight, why pay more I guess?). They board and disembark passengers from the front doors I assume? (I refuse to use the American word "deplane"! )

I see what you mean. You can almost certainly check in online more than 24 hours before departure but how early seems to depend on many factors.

Yes, passengers usually board and disembark through the front door but occasionally they use the rear door for disembarking the plane to board a bus or the front and the second doors for boarding the A321.

Been earning for a bit now via Swiss and United both credited to Miles & More, but I'm now looking to redeem and am a bit confused. Is it possible to use Miles & More points to upgrade a seat on United rather than a Lufthansa Group airline?

Yes, you can do it online using the SAUA tool. Just check the M&M website in the spend section and you'll find all information.

Take into consideration that on M&M miles you can only upgrade on United from Y or B classes, which pretty much makes it useless

Is it true that the LH space for J/F cabin will only open up 15 days in advance of departure, and not any other time (e.g., ~330 days or anytime before that)?
Does that also apply for LX space?

It seems to be the case (for LH, at least) when I did a couple of random checks for the past few weeks, but just want to know I am not missing other trends

Have a pile of M&M miles to use, and want to get a TATL flight from West Coast cities including YVR
