Hi all,
I have a 3.5 layover at LAX on Tuesday night this week and want to meet a friend for dinner. The friend is not familiar with the LAX area but will drive in. Any suggestions on places that offer good dining (perhaps a view) within 10-15 min drive of LAX where a good dinner could be had in 90-120 mins?
prefer Seafood / California cuisine or Asian cuisine if given the choice and good wines
thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Off the top of my head, some of my favorites in that area are Antonia Lofaso's Scopa Italian Roots, Josiah Citrin's Charcoal Venice, Nyesha Arrington's Leona, Gjelina and The Tasting Kitchen.
Reservations are a must at all of them. Sometimes I find that they are more flexible with available times if you call instead of using OpenTable.

You can probably get to Washington Blvd in Marina Del Rey or Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice in 15 minutes.

Also, the newish restaurant at the Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey, Cast and Plow, gets decent reviews for the food but high marks for view (outdoor patio area available):

I would add the Rose Cafe (a Venice classic recently reopened under chef Jason Neroni):

Could also add Gjusta (sister of Gjelina, and more of a walk-in spot).
Too bad Evan Funke's new place in the old Joe's spot won't be open yet.
Got tickets for Gwen's Chef's Counter next week ... loved Maude the times I've been, so am looking forward to trying Gwen.

I adore gjelina.
For an amazing view plus great food and atmosphere go to www.thestrandhouse.Com in Manhattan Beach. It's about 15 minutes south of LAX. Reservations are a must...they book up every night of the week. If you can get an outside table, even better.
I haven't been but am going next week to Salt in the marina. ..decent reviews. It might be an option for you as well.

Update; 71Above, the new restaurant on the 71st floor of the US Bank tower in downtown LA, opens on Friday. Reservations on Tock, which allows you to pick your exact table.

I didn't think of going in that direction when I posted my recommendations earlier. I totally forgot about David LeFevre's restaurants, including Fishing With Dynamite. I often run into his chefs at the Wednesday Santa Monica Farmers market.
I am never disappointed in Strand House especially because of atmosphere. So many good south bay restaurants now.
And lucky you. ..that is such a great farmers market! !
