AMS-BLL departure time 12.55 and arrival time 14:00 (in other words, smack bang in the lunchtime slot) in J on KLC: the dreaded cinnamon bun. I can understand at a push this being served in the morning or mid-afternoon, even if it is extremely poor for J service. I can also understand food being served in a bag instead of a tray, if you you must, to minimise contact. But, at least, at meal times, stick something vaguely resembling a meal in the bag, such as a sandwich and a fruit, for instance, instead of something that seems designed to feed the sugar and fat addiction of clinical obese American kids. I had four flights in J in a couple of days on KLM/KLC. On every single one of them, I got served that dreaded bun. I had one bite at it on the first flight, learnt my lesson and did not touch it in any of the subsequent ones.

Had low expectations for dinner in business class AMS-ATL this evening, but was not prepared for such a bad meal. Salad was about 2 bites and was ok. Appetizer was pieces of cold fish that tasted really bad. Hot meal was a chicken thigh with fat and gristle swimming in watery brown gravy and thankfully 3 small potatoes. A small packet of 2 crackers and a small packet of cheese, with a dry pineapple topped sponge dessert. It was really poor. No excuse for this. Hard product is very good though.

slight OT: Dutch king returns with KLM

Hi,
Just wondering what the royal family thought of the catering when they flew back yesterday evening on KL1955 from ATH....:D

For those not familiar with the background - basically the Dutch royal family flew on Friday (in the government plane) to their villa in Greece, but due to the negative respond of the public to this, they decided to return home the next day with KLM.

Cheers!

I've also been served the KLCbun on most of my flights these past two months at all meal times! BLL/AMS pm flight included! One crew member even offered to heat them up for us!

In coach? Or did they clear out the J cabin for them?

KL's ATH flights are pretty full these days, both ways and in both classes.

By the way, does KL1955 even exist? An odd flight # would be a AMS departure in any case.

KL1576 departed ATH 39 minutes late yesterday, maybe they were waiting for special Marcel Wanders Royal cardboard catering boxes?

I am sure it was in J, not mentioned in any of the press - one of the local press said it was much cheaper even if they paid for a J-fare (~649 Euro pp) for them to return with KLM vs the govt plane (~40k euro to send and pick them up).
Indeed it was KL1576 (I don't know why I typed 1955 :p). Most probably the delay is indeed waiting for those special boxes...or waiting for their connecting private transportation from their villa to the airport...too bad they did not manage to try out the Goldair lounges there....:D

Cheers!

J for sure. There was information from other passengers on that flight that they even didn't notice the royal family was on board.

Having been served both shorthaul breakfasts this morning (no, not on the same flight), I've finally figured out when you get what. The breakfast pictured in posts 249 & 252 is the so-called overnight box, and is served on early flights to AMS from outstations where the aircraft has been parked overnight, which rules out anything fresh. That includes orange juice, which was on board this morning, but I couldn't have because it had not been refrigerated.

Hurray! I finally got the bulgur salad today. Not bad, made a nice change from the Caesar one.

No menu sticker, but then the dessert is still the same as last month.

which route?

CPH-AMS, lunchtime. The purser told me they had served Caesar salad AMS-CPH, even though that should have been a breakfast flight.

perfect, that's an upgrade to my cinnamon roll on a morning Cityhopper CPH-AMS flight.

My flights are mainly mainline, but on the couple of KLC flights I've done on this route I've received the standard breakfast or a Caesar's, more or less depending on the time of day.

The number of AMS-CPH rotations continues to decrease, to four daily in November (two KLC) and three in December (one KLC). Both airports are becoming more and more like ghost towns. Arriving at AMS two days ago I found myself the only passenger in the entire baggage hall. A single belt was running, with a few very forlorn looking bags on an endless merry-go-round journey. For some reason most of the lights in half the hall were off, just to add to the spooky feeling. The six customs agents at the exit were too busy chatting to even notice me.
