Now luchtvaartnieuws.nl reports that KLM is seriously considering going 100% vegetarian on all flights.

Not sure how well that will go down with their passengers.

I eat very little meat, and am very picky about the meat I do eat, so I wouldn't be too bothered, but only ±8% of people self-identifiy as vegetarians. I also suspect that some people might not appreciate having somebody else's ethical/political choice rammed down their throats. Literally.

No problem even for meat-eaters. After "bring your own glassware" on AF (*), we'll just "bring our own meat" when flying KL.
That's just an extra item to put in the flying bag to enjoy flying the pre-Covid way.

(*) For the CDG-LHR route, glassware might not be needed. Please consult AF.com and WHO.org for the latest news about what's safe to consume on which routes.

Meanwhile the question really seems to be justified what and how much some people are smoking in Amstelveen :confused::confused: !?!?

While I am fully on the same page with Johan, I would also like to add that the fig leaf reason mentioned in said article "more sustainability" is not believable. I am sure it is about money. Apart from recent studies are showing that a well balanced diet is the best for humans and the planet and no extremes on either side, since increasing the demand for veggies further will increase the need for water in order to let them grow and that bring additional challenges for which no one has an answer as of now.

If they want to get more sustainable with veggie only, I for my part will be even more sustainable by not flying them again.

Thank god AF has a culinary tradition which they will not give up for some weirdo ideas :)

Surely that's awful, go veggie and give nobody any choice. The sandwiches in Euro economy are already vegetarian and pretty good, IMO.

Are they perhaps planning this to push some more business towards Blue, if that even ever opens again.

Any recent (or semi-recent) experience of the J meal for KL735 - the mid afternoon flight AMS - CUR?

And further to this, any knowledge of what the child meal is likely to be?

Never flown KLM long haul and trying to manage expectations - particularly around for a 5 year old.

thanks in advance

Imho Blue doesn't play a role in that spreadsheet exercise. The honest way for going sustainable would be sourcing Organic products wherever possible: Meat, Fish, AND of course Vegetables & Fruits. That would contribute more to overall eco sustainability than just switching to veggie only catering with cheapo veggies sourced from super mass production (for the spreadsheet ;-) ) that isn't helping the environment at all.

I am curious what would go on in France if AF would came up with such weirdo ideas. Just imagine the amount of Foie Gras which is being served every month in premium cabins that would get replaced by, let's say Beetroot Carpaccio with Walnuts and Goat Cheese (minus the Goat Cheese, because veggie only, ya know :D)

Sure, but these are flights of a couple of hours at most, which most people will survive even if they eat nothing. On longer flights there should at the very least be a choice, and the options should cater to the preferences of as many pax as possible. Going strictly vegetarian is not a bright idea, in my opinion.

Agreed. Meat provides all sorts of essential nutrients such as various vitamins and minerals. Eating meat, preferably of high quality, in modest quantities sure beats being vegan and popping pills by the fistful in an attempt to stave off all sorts of deficiencies.

That being said, it makes me wonder if KL will, assuming they will go through with their all veg catering, provide a Marcel Wanders designed Nutritional Supplements sachet that comes along with salt and pepper and a plant based (ideally: Palm Oil :D ) spreadable on the tray :D

:D :D

And instead of windmills, clogs, etc., the wrapper could be festooned with pictures of vitamins and minerals. I think B12 looks best:

But E is pretty cute too
